Hartlief Gardens Deli — Restaurant in Oranjezicht

I like this place for the quality, variety and care that goes into the packing and presentation of their coldmeats, but I'm very disappointed with the attitude of their staff towards their clientele. There was no one before me, but the staff were so buzy packing up before closing, they pretended to not see me, and this was an hour before closing. Eventually staff decided to assist. I paid and decided last minute (not last minute before closing) to get myself a cuppa coffee, when the guy behind the counter told me he had already closed for hot coffee while refilling his coffee sweeteners containers, that I could only have ice-coffee which was available and for sale at that hour. I decided to settle for iced coffee as I didn't want to inconvenience him. Out consideration for him and the rest of the staff packing up, I decided to sit outside of the hartlief shop. While waiting for my husband to get back from pnp, I saw the same coffee counter assistant making coffee for an Asian customer, and this was just minutes after he has told me he was closed for hot coffee. I couldn't believe wot had just happened. Out of total disgust and brazen disregard from him toward me as a customer, I went back inside to express my utter disappointment and disgust towards him for his lack of regard to me as a customer, obviously favouring certain clients over others on face value. His reply to me was inexcusable and not warranted. All I could express to him was my last words, "I am very disappointed and it's so unfair". I am at a loss for words....becoz we live in a society that judges still by face value, I can't think of any other reason this would happen, or mayb I was just too...

I have been a loyal customer of Hartlief for many many years and whilst the quality of the cold meats is still excellent , it is dissspointing to experience the poor service at the newly revamped self service counter at the gardens Center and above all , the negative and rude attitude of the manager . This morning there was no one behind the counter and after standing around for a while we asked for assistance in service from the management team that were busy having a meeting . Whilst this did result in service , the coffee order was incorrect and again we waited an unacceptably long time waiting for the correct order , till finely again bringing this to the attention with same manager who was clearly furious with me!! She questioned why I came to the store if I was unhappy ! So whilst I will still continue to buy my meats from Hartlief I will choose to go to Constantia in future, as do not wish to be subjected to this really unpleasant interaction again . Thus manager needs to have a few lessons in what customer service...

There has always been a German Deli in the Gardens Centre as long as i can remember (several decades). While it may have operated under a different name in the past, the staff seemed to stay the same and 'Raith' is now one of my favourite lunch time spots (hang, we even pop past on the way home to grab a small dinner sometimes).

Sometimes you just need a steak roll and chips or a meatball on a salty roll (with some gravy).

I am not sure what they put in the mayo (super addictive crack cocaine?) but make sure to ask for some with..anything really. It even goes nicely on the potato cheese balls.

It is also a good spot to pick up a good cut of meat from the butchery section or obscure German treats (imported). The recent renovations also improved the flow through the shop so there is less crowding these days.

An outside seating area also ensures that there are tables available at most times (sometimes the queue can reach out the door on busy days).
