Thoban Chefs — Restaurant in Saldanha Bay Local Municipality

This review is for my Cape townians going into Langebaan wanting to try asian food. Listen, this is not it. Was feeling for asian cuisine on my trip here and it was underwhelming.

The wantons were 3 sad pieces for R55, which was served with piping hot sweet Chilli sauce (???) The dumplings, which I came here for, were not even seasoned at all. At all, not even with salt. Worst dumplings I've ever had. They weren't even prepared well, the dumplings stuck to one another, tearing when I tried to pick them up to eat.

Disappointed with the dumplings, I decided to try some recommended dishes. Which were quite decent. The Mongolian beef was flavorful, but proportions of sauce to noodles were off, 4/10. The sweet and sour pork was good with rice, 6/10. The only thing I would recommend is the General TSO chicken, that was great, and the only thing I truly enjoyed, and frankly the only reason this review has any stars, 8/10.

Other points to note: Parking is great. The view from the restaurant is marvelous. 3.They do operate during loadshedding hours, however, it was a 30 minute wait for my starters. Not a spacious restaurant. Toilets did not look sanitary, and the only 2 toilets available are both gender neutral. Non halaal.

Overall not worth the trip for the asian food. Maybe try something else...

The food here is made to order. You can literally taste the yum in the air. The chef/owner definitely has clear focus and care on creating a bite by bite satisfactory experience. There is clear communication between the chef and server which I believe, ensures a guaranteed bi-directional feeling of comfort and all around pleasing environment. You can call ahead to book a specific type of table. You have an option of a breathtaking seaview, waves crashing, seat outside on the deck, inside with a cute little lantern as the sun sets or sit close to the gorgeous indoor fire. Covid safety precautions are in full effect and temperature checks and masks are required whe entering this fine establishment. The wide variety of sushi specials and asian cuisine is outstanding. That was hands down THE best made sushi rice I have ever tasted in my life. Vicky, the friendliest, accomodating and courteous server both on the phone, and in person made us feel right at home and special. Thank you soo much Vicky. Great for family outings. Exceptional spot for a date night. I loved it!!! Bonus: we were on the deck of the restaurant, and was blessed to see some seals playing in the waves. Come on!!! See ya...

We drove all the way from Paarl to Langebaan for such terrible food. Went for the buffet and had about 3 plates of noodles to share with my boyfriend and all 3 had so much salt in it. The sushi was terrible and staff weren't even willing to accommodate us with vegetarian sushi. One would think they'd accommodate us as it's much cheaper to make vegetarian sushi but nope. When we reported this to the manager, he stood and just looked at us and proceeded to charge us the R440.00 of our bill after only eating 3 plates. One can't juatify it. We had to call again later as we were so upset and the owner had the audacity to tell us something was wrong with us because out of 100 people that enjoyed the food, we were the only people to complain. My boyfriend told him that a thousand people go to KFC every weekend and that doesn't mean its good. He then proceeded to say that he couldn't even give us a voucher because we wouldn't eat there again. This is very poor service from this place and we are so disgusted by the attitude of the restaurant owner. Wouldn't recommend this place...
