I was quite bored in Jeju-City, where I was for almost one week for a conference, but having excellent craft beer and delicious homemade fries with garlic sauce at Magpie Brewing Co was probably what saved me from a complete nervous breakdown ! (lol). I went there 3 times during the week, sometimes just for a beer after the dinner, sometimes for 3-4 beers and food, and really enjoyed it each time. The music is also quite nice, very sharp selection of trendy electro/italo-disco/house/ambient. I went here twice on my 4 days on the island, a Wednesday and Friday evening. The first night I was one of only a few customers, but Friday was hopping with Koreans of all ages. The beer was good - I had the porter and 2 lighter beers. The staff speak adequate English and seem to know their stuff. I was impressed by the fact that they sterilize their glasses before pouring, even though they are obviously clean. I’ve been to bars in Korea that reuse glasses and wash them by hand, so this was a welcome change. Although I wasn’t hungry, the pizzas looked as good as anything that you can get in the country. Best place in Jeju for a craft beer. If you are going to be staying in Jeju city, so stay near this joint. They have great local craft beers as well as plenty of craft beers from the rest of South Korea. The famous Magpie Pale Ale is 6000krw for 450ml and the Black Rock Imperial Stout is 9000krw. Must try is the Magpie Pale Ale that got them famous as well as any seasonal brews; inbny case is a coffee Baltic Porter for 9000krw. While you are here, have their pizzas too.
