Anyone who has visited Korea has probably been here at least once ☝🏻 Established since 1966, Myeongdong Kyoja, affectionately coined by locals as Myungkal, serves up delicious, meaty, and piping hot 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀 (𝟭𝟮.𝟬₩) 🥟 Packed with generous fillings of pork, leek, and sesame oil, the Mandus 🥟🥟 were absolute divine. 🤤🥰🤌🏻 With remarkably thin dumpling skin that definitely was not dough-ey (it was translucent even!), the Mandus were unbelievably juicy and absolutely delicious! We especially loved how the pork and leek combined to give such a nice texture as well. This was so good that we are definitely returning for round 2! 💯💯 Their 𝗞𝗮𝗹𝗴𝘂𝗸𝘀𝘂 (𝟭𝟭.𝟬₩) 🍜 ♨️ would warm your ✨ soul through to your toes✨ With nicely cooked handmade knife cut noodles that were on the softer side, the flavourful clean broth and dumplings were excellent and perfect for the cold weather. ☃️🧣 The 𝗕𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗺𝗴𝘂𝗸𝘀𝘂 (𝟭𝟭.𝟬₩) 🌶️🍜 featured a spicy, sour, and refreshing soybean gochujang sauce over wheat noodles. The grassy green colour came from the chlorella making the noodles so appetising 🌿. The flavours and texture of the noodles were excellent and we must say that the sauce was spicy hot! SHIOK! 🫶🏻 What blew our minds was that additional noodles and rice are FREE 🤯, because they want their customers to leave with a full belly (don’t mind if we do~) 🤰🫃! We would say Myeongdong Kyoja is def a must try for everyone and is popular among locals and tourists for a good reason. 👍🏻🫰🏻 Follow us on IG @toofoodtomiss for more foodie content!

MYEONGDONG KYOJA 명동교자 본점 - MICHELIN GUIDE RESTAURANT 🇰🇷🥟🍜🏆⭐️ Myeongdong Kyoja 명동교자 is a family-owned place in operation since 1966. The restaurant offers only four items on the menu, specializes in dumplings and Kalguksu Noodles. The eatery, while rich in history - became even more famous after it was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand. An impressive number of patrons flock here daily for the piping hot gyozas, including its signature garlic-laden kimchi, which are made in-house. The snaking queue can be intimidating but it moves quickly and the place is buzzing all the time which adds lots of vibrancy, making it an atmospheric dining hotspot for comfort food. Kalguksu noodles was delicious- despite having a very light broth, it was flavorful and you could taste the smokiness of the meat in the soup. The hand-cut noodles were smooth and slippery, with the right amount of bite. The steamed dumplings were generously sized and filled with juicy meatiness. The thin skin was almost translucent- it's a bit like an oversized Xiao Long Bao- but I think the most memorable thing about them was the amount of meat. Ps: Address: This famous restaurant actually has 2 outlets in the heart of Myeongdong (so if the queue is long at one, you can always try the other- they're located very closeby!) * 8 Myeongdong 10-Gil, Jung-gu, Seoul * 29, Myeongdong 10-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul

Myeongdong Kyoja, a restaurant awarded multiple years with a Bib Gourmand. We came here after having heard raving reviews from friends who came to Korea a few months prior. The food itself can only be described as extremely underwhelming, but the service and efficiency of this establishment was something to marvel at. We arrived around 7PM on a Monday and was met with a small line of another three or four parties in front of us. Despite the first floor being closed, we were met with nearly zero wait and led up three flights of stairs to the third floor and seated immediately. We each ordered a order of the dumplings and noodle soup, as well as a side of the soup dumplings. Service was extremely quick with food coming within 10 minutes of ordering. Now, I'll be first to admit that perhaps I'm just not a fan of this particular style of noodles, but in my opinion, noodles themselves were extremely mediocre, perhaps even bordering on bad. Style of noodles were more of a softer noodles, without really any crunch/resistance (not sure if this is the intended texture or whether our bowl was just overcooked). Broth was also extremely underwhelming, somewhere right in the middle of being clean/refreshing broth and being rich (i.e. a bit bland, but not in a good way). Dumplings were definitely overcooked and basically disintegrated upon touch. Dumplings we ordered on the side were honestly nothing special, don't actually think they were soupy at all, so might have just been wrapped in a style of a soup dumpling. Price was actually extremely reasonable, especially compared to some of the other food that we had in Korea. But to give credit where its due, this establishment was definitely optimized to the inch. There was barely any room between each table and was just enough space to not be an uncomfortable squeeze, while not wasting any space at all. Tables were also turning around at breakneck speeds during the half an hour that we were here. Although not quite my taste, given its extremely reasonable price, I would honestly recommend this restaurant just to see how efficiently they run in person.

We went in based on a friend's recommendation on Memorial Day evening, not knowing what to expect and unprepared on what or how to order. At the entrance, we were directed to join the big group queue on the third floor either via the stairs or lift. There was a lady staff who managed the queue and our turn came fairly quickly. She tried her best to explain in English to help us non-Korean speaking tourists order and collected payment on the spot. It was very fast and efficient. I realised later that there are digital order machines on another floor too. Food was served very quickly once we were seated. Based on the staff's recommendation we had 2 bowls of Kalguksu (knife-cut thin wheat noodles in thick hot broth), a bowl of Kongguksu (noodles in creamy cold soy broth - the Kyoja version uses chlorella - freshwater algae noodles!) and a bowl of Bibimguksu (spicy cold noodle salad). Unfortunately we missed the steamed mandu as they were sold out. The Kongguksu (summer only) and Bibimguksu were the highlights as they are more unusual and delicious! Would go again earlier in the day for the steamed mandu, Kongguksu and Bibimguksu! Kalguksu - 11k Bibimguksu - 11k Kongguksu - 12k Steamed mandu - 12k Check out their website http://m.mdkj.co.kr/?ckattempt=1

Summary 3/5: Average food, fast-food style restaurant. Pay before food served, accept card payment. Food 3.5/5: Average. 1. The Kyoja (steam dumplings) 3.5/5: The dumplings were flavorful, more like Chinese dumplings, remind me of Din Tai Fung dumplings. Just that the size is bigger and do not have soup inside. That said, not Michelin grade in my opinion. 2. Kongguksu (Korean cold soybean noodle soup) 3/5: The cold soybean soup was thick, a hint of salty (hence savory) and sweetness, can taste sesame in it, making it flavorful. The noodles are like green soba, with very little slices of cucumber (almost nowhere to be seen), plain and simple vegetarian dish. Big portion size. Not Michelin grade as well. Service 3/5: This Michelin Bid Gourmand Restaurant attracts a lot of tourists. When we were here, we started the queue by the main entrance on the ground floor. That said, they have staff station at the entrance for crowd/traffic control, making the wait short. Since they serve only 4 dishes, also making the food was served very fast. The Environment 3/5: a very busy restaurant, you will have to share table with strangers. The interesting part is they put a wood partition in between the 2 strangers if they are sharing a table. 1st time for us.
