Your response was both disappointing and unprofessional. Making assumptions about a customer’s nationality is not only inappropriate but entirely irrelevant — for the record, I am British-born and bred.
The concern was never about the principle of paying for live music; it was about transparency. There was no clear or prominent notice at the entrance stating that a £16 cover charge would be added simply for sitting down to have a drink. In the United Kingdom — as across Europe — customers reasonably expect all charges to be communicated before they commit to stay.
Instead of addressing this straightforward point, your reply resorted to personal remarks, irrelevant assumptions, and capitalised words that read as aggressive. This approach reflects poorly on the business and undermines customer trust. I made no comments about your appearance, background, or nationality, and I expect the same standard of courtesy and respect from a professional business owner.
Professionalism is measured not by how you respond when praised, but by how you respond when challenged — and on this occasion, the response...

We walked into Tokyo Jazz Club just to have a drink, only to later discover we’d been charged £16 to listen to what can only be described as one of the worst performances in history. The drinks were £7 each, which wouldn’t be so bad if the experience was even remotely enjoyable.
The place was completely empty except for one other customer, which in hindsight should have been a warning sign. The singing was awful, the bass guitarist kept playing wrong notes, and the service was equally poor.
Be warned before you go — or better yet,...
