Saturday evening the 22nd of April we went to Kyomu for sushi, without reservation. We arrived at 21:40, and were told that at that moment there wasn’t a table available. However, they said if we could wait 20 minutes then they for sure would have a table. We did see an empty 4 seat table, but thought there might be a reservation for that one.
We went to Savage for a cocktail, a bar/restaurant that happens to be of the same organization as Kyomu is. We waited 10 minutes before we were finally noticed by the staff, told them we have a reservation at 22:00 so little time left. They said it wasn’t a problem. At 22:00 they still didn’t have any drinks so we asked for a refund which was given. They said that the menus change so often that the bartenders didn’t know how to make the cocktails?! Strange. In those 20 minutes 3 groups arrived and left again as they weren’t attended after 10 minutes as well, so it wasn’t a single occurrence.
We went back to Kyomu for dinner. There was still no table available. They asked if we wanted to sit at the bar outside (there was no one sitting there?) which we didn’t want, and they asked us then if we wanted to sit at Savage where we just were at for drinks and weren’t noticed by the staff, which we obviously didn’t want either. The manager of these ventures said he would personally attend our table, but we declined the offer since it was terrible service before that already. Suddenly the 4 seat table that was empty all the time was available for us, which was a pleasant surprise but a bit odd. After receiving the menu we ordered 2 cold appetizers, 3 nigiris, and 2 maki rolls. We were told the cold appetizers could take around 20 minutes so they advised us to either swap or also take a warm appetizer for in the meantime. We ordered vegetable spring rolls. After about 20-30 minutes the spring rolls arrived, albeit not warm anymore (how?), they were tasty. We then waited for about 60-90 minutes without receiving any of the other food we ordered. We asked many times about it, and eventually told them if they can’t serve us food then they might as well just bring out the bill because at this point it was pointless as it was already midnight. Suddenly they started rushing and we received one of the nigiris and one of the rolls we ordered. Both were delicious. However we were also then told that they couldn’t give us any more since it was busy and everyone ordered sushi (they are a sushi restaurant!). We were very hungry and upset about it, since all other restaurants are closed at this point. We had numerous discussions with the manager of these venues, after which we decided to let it be since they were simply incapable of managing the situation and initial expectations. They tried to ‘fix’ the situation by bringing us a couple slices of some fish, which at this point was merely an insult than anything else. We were hungry, frustrated, angry and upset. They then after failing literally every request asked us to come back a different night or to one of their other restaurants (Fiore) to make up for it, but the damage was already done. Never again at Kyomu for us.
The problem isn’t that they didn’t have a table, since we didn’t make a reservation. But if they bring us in and advise us on all kinds of food and then never bring any of it out, you just don’t understand what you’re doing and are simply being extremely selfish. Just be honest and upfront that you don’t think you can serve us, and we’ll go somewhere else and try again later on.
Multiple venues from the same organization with the same issues in serving, they should be ashamed. The food that we receive was...
Read moreWe expected Japanese food but ended up in a mixed Asian fusion restaurant.
Why is my review low? First we were sat next to the chef counter. Which is not bad in itself, but their ticket machine was right on the counter, directly beside our ears. It would have a high tone beep on every order...
We requested to be moved and the next table was so unstable and wobbly. The stand was definitely broken.
Now to the food, when deciding what to order, we realized that there is cream cheese in almost all the rolls. Cream cheese is a strong flavor in itself and made variety difficult. The rolls ended up being good, but nothing to rave about or go for.
We also ordered a bowl of ramen. This is the one that was really upsetting. The broth had no flavor, it's listed as a chicken and pork broth. It literally tasted like water with a hint of vegetables. The noodles were cooked properly, but again no flavors. The pork seems to have been nuked and tasted bland. The tea egg tasted great even though it was a bit overcooked.
Atmosphere: The restaurant is beautiful, they did their decoration well and it was a treat to be in and look around. I gotta give it to them on this.
Overall: I feel this restaurant may be for people who don't know or haven't really experienced Japanese or Asian food. Flavors are weak and everything is cooked to a higher temperature than I would expect. The price did not reflect the expected value received. Way too expensive for what it was.
If you're craving Japanese food, this would not...
Read moreWe arrived at the place with high expectations, but overall, we were disappointed. The venue appears spacious in the photos, but in reality, there are only about 10-15 tables arranged quite tightly. Throughout the entire evening, there was only one waitress serving all the guests, which is, of course, not her fault but rather the management's, who likely don’t want to pay for additional staff.
We had a reservation, and after waiting for several minutes, we were seated at an unprepared table, which wasn’t even set up until the food arrived. We had to specifically ask for napkins, chopsticks, wasabi, soy sauce, and other essentials. The drink and food menus were brought relatively quickly, but due to the waitress being alone, placing the order was an extremely lengthy process. After taking our order, the drinks arrived shortly, but my friend’s cola was not brought despite repeatedly asking the waitress. It finally arrived after a 30-minute wait and only after repeated reminders when the first dish was served.
The Wagyu nigiri was indeed special and delicious due to the high-quality ingredients. However, the rolls we chose were average, although this is a matter of taste—we’ve had much better sushi elsewhere.
All in all, it’s certain that the service is terrible, the food is average, and we definitely won’t be returning to this place.
