La Tapa — Restaurant in Arona

Not many entries but the right ones at an affordable price and we'll prepared.

Just had 1- Clalamares a la Romana, 1- Pimientos de Padrón, 1- Papas Bravas, 2- Jarras (Pints) of Clara (Draft beer mixed with lemon soda). All for 26€ and some change.

The place is small and with the chilly breeze of Los Cristiano's winter, eating outside feels just like Madrid for an islander, but very pleasant with a nice couple red wines if you're so inclined.

The moment you arrive you're greeted to your table with a slice of fresh tortilla or a couple fried tuna and tomato "empanadas" and a smile from the friendly staff.

The bathrooms are clean and we'll kept, and you can watch soccer on a big screens too. Make sure you call in advance for an appointment during football matches or peak times.

I never would have come in here if it weren't for the top reviews online. It doesn't look much from outside and when we turned up 40 minutes after their advertised opening hour, they said they weren't open for 20 minutes. Came back then and all the outside tables were reserved so we had to sit in the dark inside area. I was told they didn't serve Cava or Sangria (unheard of in any Spanish restaurant I've ever been to so far, of MANY!), so settled for a chilled and strangely almost red. Our hopes weren't very high at this point, but I must say that the food made up for it. We ordered croquetas (very nice), the broken eggs with potatoes and Jamon (really good and insanely large portion for the price), garlic prawns (delicious) and the potatoes in roquefort sauce (SO tasty). The food here is incredibly fresh, and the portion sizes are absolutely huge! My husband and I initially planned to order one portion each, but the waiter/owner kindly advised us to go for half a portion per person. We took his advice and also added two small tapas, and it was the perfect amount. We left feeling completely satisfied but not overly stuffed.
