Metropolis Bar Café — Restaurant in Arona

We visited this café a few days ago with high expectations. My wife had found excellent reviews on Google and recommendations from various influencers.

We arrived early at 8:15 AM because we wanted to enjoy a delicious breakfast before starting our day of adventures.

When we arrived, the seaside view and the ambiance were top-notch. We were impressed and thought the day was off to a great start. The waiter was polite but informed us that the kitchen wouldn’t open until 9 AM. We thought it wasn’t ideal, but we decided to wait (Strike 1).

In the meantime, we ordered coffee and smoothies. The waiter returned to inform us that they were out of some ingredients. We agreed to have the smoothies without those ingredients (Strike 2).

Once the kitchen opened, we ordered two salmon and two avocado sandwiches with poached eggs. When the food arrived, it looked underwhelming, not what we expected based on the reviews. Worse, the eggs weren’t poached but hard-boiled. The sandwich overall was average at best (Strike 4).

The kids actually enjoyed their breakfast, but my wife and I were disappointed. As we were finishing, my younger daughter found a shrimp shell in her sandwich, which was awkward and upsetting (Strike 5).

We decided to pay and leave, but then the final mishap occurred—the waiter accidentally spilled the leftover food onto my lap (Strike 6).

I didn’t say anything; I just wanted to leave and never come back.

I must say that the place and view were amazing, and the food was average, but given the reviews, we expected much more. I would have rated it higher than a 2 if there hadn’t been so many small issues...

UPDATE! Because of its amazing location and it frankly is one of the only options for a good salad I gave it another chance. New staff is incredible, friendly and efficient, and so I’m happy to change my review to 4*. Prices are very fair as well! Keep up the good work :)

Old review - this place has lots going for it, the staff unfortunately are so utterly rude and unwelcoming that it’s just not worth your €€. Never have I been to a place where a waitress rolls her eyes at guests, and tells them she is ‘going crazy’. Never have I been to a place where a waiter tells guests they ‘complicated his life’ (and only after switching tables, the inconvenience!! We hadn’t even ordered yet). If you do go, because to location is amazing and fair enough, the food is pretty good- make sure to expect the worse service on the...

Not sure why but we were totally ignored by staff, maybe because we are eastern Europeans and don't speak Spanish? Despite the cafe not being particularly busy, my friends and I were completely ignored by the staff. We waited for what felt like an eternity to place our order, but no one bothered to acknowledge us. When we finally managed to get someone's attention, the staff were indifferent and seemed more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. The lack of basic courtesy and attentiveness was appalling.It's a shame because the ambiance seemed promising, but the poor service ruined the entire experience. I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this cafe to anyone who values good...
