Restaurante Gula — Restaurant in Arona

My husband and I ate here four times during our two weeks holiday to Playa da Las Americas, 30/9/2021 - 14/10/2021. Gula is by far a cut above any other restaurants in Playa. To start with you are greeted in a polite manner by staff, all wearing masks, you are shown to your table, you have to book your table to sit outside, but there are plenty of tables in their covered area and restaurant area. The tables have a table cloth and cloth napkins, which is a nice touch, the tables are not crammed in like most restaurants. The chairs are nice and comfortable which is a bonus. The whole eating area has a clean, relaxed, airy ambiance. The waiting staff are very efficient, hard working and polite and make sure your time with them is professionally run. The food choices are varied and cover all dietary requirements, the food is of excellent quality and is cooked to perfection, lots of great tastes and combinations. Fillet steak, hand cut chips, not frozen and baton vegetables cost €16 which is very good value compared to other restaurants which sell tasteless food for the same price. There is one downside, the bread rolls that are given to you whilst waiting for drinks you are charged €2 and the "complementary" taster before your starters is also €2, neither of which you are told about upon being given. They have a very eager greeter outside, who gave us a good impression so we decided to get a table here. First red flag was, that it took them 10 minutes to provide us with a menu. Next, it took 30(!) Minutes before we were allowed to order. We had to chase down a waiter who could obviously care less, since he milled around for another 20 minutes doing very little, after telling us he would be right there. We were finally provided with bread and wine, which was fine. But the biggest, and final, problem came when our entré was served. I ordered the chicken, and as soon as I tried cutting into it, I noticed that there was a large piece of plastic wrapped in it! Absolutely disgusting! After finally making contact with a waiter, he didn't really seem that concerned and said that I was "free to choose something else from the menu". Excuse me?! He did confirm that it was indeed a large piece of plastic that was not supposed to be there, but at this point we were so disgusted with the food and the service that we chose to simply leave and not pay for the poor attempt at a meal. The waiter accepted this and offered a half-hearted apology as we left. The waiter's reaction and the other reviews here tells me that this is probably something that happens here frequently, and this restaurant has no concept of kitchen hygiene or safety standards. I would be seriously worried about the health of anyone who eats...

⭐️ This is a top-notch restaurant! One of the best restaurants I’ve tried in Tenerife! It definitely deserves a Michelin Recommendation! The food is fantastic! Service and its timing were just perfect. The venue is big and there’s a great ambiance in it and outside on the terrace. There are lovely giant cactuses around the garden 🪴🌵 The staff is incredibly talented and fast. They served us warm mini rolls and two pieces of bread 🥖. They’re very crunchy and tasty. We were also given complimentary mini lentil food. Omg 😱 It was the best lentil dish I have ever had. Then we ordered Garlic Prawn 🍤 and Tuna & Avocado Tartare 🍣 🥑 They were absolutely delicious 🤤 Then we ordered Grilled Avocado 🥑 and it was very nice too. They were served with diced cheese which was not melted or anything. We found it a little bit weird and I don’t think it added any flavor to the dish. But anyway avocado was tasty. Then we ordered Iberian Pork Cheeks which were served with mushroom 🍄 the meat was very tender and the sauce was very nice. It came with mashed potatoes but we asked them to add truffle to it. However, the truffle taste was very mild. It could have been added more. We also ordered Grilled Asparagus from the Side Dishes section. It was incredibly so juicy, tasty, and very proportionate.
