I visited Baby Jalebi last Sunday evening with my friends after hearing good things about it and seeing multiple decent reviews about the restaurant. It's very hard to find a good Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Barcelona so we were all really looking forward to trying Baby Jalebi. We've grown up eating Indian and Pakistani food as its a staple in the UK.
Let me just say we were very disappointed when the food was served. We ordered a variety curries and they all seemed to be cooked in exactly the same sauce...even Korma didn't differ much from a Tikka Massala. The base sauces tasted the same in all of our curries. All of them weirdly tasted cheesy? Most of all we were served raw chicken and only noticed it at the end of our meal which freaked us out and made the whole dining experience even worse. We all hate complaining so it took a lot for us to say something to staff. Eventually the waiter came over to our table and I decided to inform him of the fact we were served raw chicken. I showed him a piece which was completely pink and uncooked inside. He did not even respond, didn't say a single word just took that piece of chicken in a napkin and walked off. 5 minutes after he came back and asked us '' Do you want a new one?''. He didn't apologise just asked if we wanted a new curry and of course we all said no because the raw chicken was enough to put us off eating anything from Baby Jalebi ever again.
We were charged for the entire meal and no apologies were given. The service was awful and the food was equally just as bad. The naan bread is more like a shop bought flat bread and they charge 1 euro each for a shop bought poppadom. Don't bother ordering the lime pickle as its 1 euro for a tablespoon of a Patak's finest lime pickle that is possibly the worst one i've ever tried. Mango chutney was out of a jar as well and it costs 1 euro for a tablespoon worths as well. It's all laughable really. If you want a good Indian, don't bother looking for it...
Read moreOur first night in Barcelona and trying to decide where to go. It’s Sunday and it seems many places close earlier than they do during the week. As we look to what’s around our area we find this place 500 feet from our Airbnb. We love Indian food so decide this is dinner. Start off by earlier we saw a large crowd of people waiting to get in when they opened. That’s always a great sign. We get there and it seems they do take reservations but we walked right in and were able to get a table . Our waitress walks over and speaks English and Spanish. We order the chicken tikka masala spice level hot ! Chicken butter spice level medium some chicken tikka wings. Some garlic and cheese naan. Two cokes and two waters. Wings come out and they were tasty. The main dishes came out and definitely the smell was delicious and the taste was very good . Spice level was not as hot as we use to but it did have a little kick to it. Again, not like burning hot. The hot was more like a light level. We eat spicy so if you don’t then order the medium or light . The chicken tikka and the butter chicken were very good . Definitely would eat there again. The garlic naan and cheese naan were nice and warm when brought out . I don’t think it’s made there but it was tart also . Rice or other side must be ordered separate . They have two location in Barcelona. I would definitely recommend for a nice simple dinner that is reasonably priced in a clean...
Read moreThis place was insanely overpriced for the food it had to offer. Small portions of Indian street food; in India you’d get this stuff for close to nothing. What’s interesting is that despite advertising as an Indian restaurant, the cooking style is Pakistani, which is actually very different, while still remaining within the Indian dining cuisine. As we were seated outside it is only understandable that the service was not the same. Nonetheless they really should’ve paid more attention to the tables outdoors.
On the whole, the food was greasy (so much so that it was unhealthy), it wasn’t really Indian food (samosas tasted completely different as they were cooked in Pakistani style), service was sloppy, small portions which weren’t at all proportionate with the prices. The location is small, packed and claustrophobic; therefore opting to eat on an outdoor table seems sensible, however you’ll get limited service....
