This was one of many Mexican restaurants we had on our list to try, and it just so happened that we were in the area one evening and thought why not now?
Firstly, the service was amazing. Exceptionally kind and helpful people working there with a great depth of knowledge about the food (and spirits) they serve. It truly was the welcoming vibe from the staff that brought this from a 4 star to a 5 from me.
The food itself is priced on the high side, that's no secret. However, the dishes are very generous and perfectly balanced. Some tasted exactly like restaurants we went to in Mexico. For people saying this is not authentic, have they been to Mexico or are they comparing it to other Mexican places outside Mexico? I am curious because to us, it seemed very similar to actual Mexican food with the balance of flavours. The ceviche was swimming in liquid, which was a bit strange but I seem to encounter this phenomenon all over Europe so perhaps that is how Europeans like it, and they are just making it for the European taste. It was bursting with fresh flavours and what it says on the menu, you can actually taste clearly!
I don't eat oysters myself (allergy) but my partner really enjoyed them and the flavourful twists on them. The passion fruit one in particular was a hit.
The guac was delicious and the totopos were excellent. We couldn't get enough! Even ordered an extra serving of them.
Tacos were exactly like we had from tiny local taco stands in Mexico. And they have nopales on them. Such a great find and very authentic. That really sold us on the tacos. Initially we wanted the lengua as I loved those when in Mexico and rarely see them elsewhere, but nopales were equally tempting.
The drinks left a little to be desired. The tepache was nothing like it shows online, and tasted a little watery. They have a selection of mezcal and do offer it for sipping. Unlike mezcalerías in Mexico, they only give one slice of orange here. No grasshoppers and only a tiny bit of spicy salt. But I appreciate the effort. The cocktails were decent but not mind-blowing.
The ambience is clean and spacious, but not intimate. Just a typical restaurant.
It is truly a place where it is clear they care about the food and their guests, and that makes it...
Read moreNEVER EVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!! Took them 2 hours to bring out our food and when they did the prawns smelt like they had been left in the sun for 24 hours. When we tried to send them back and politely told the waiter we didn’t feel comfortable paying for them they proceeded to call the police and then locked us inside the restaurant. Let me clarify we were MORE than happy to pay for everything else, we at no point were trying to avoid paying the bill. The waiter physically stopped me from going outside to smoke while we waited for the police. And threw the evidence of rotten prawns in the bin to avoid showing the police. Never in my life have I ever been more disrespected at a restaurant. It was embarrassing and ridiculous to say the least. Rotten prawns are rotten prawns never in my life will I take that risk and being forced to pay €18 for something that I wouldn’t even feed to my dog is ridiculous. -100/10 disgusting service, disgusting food. They should be ashamed not just as a restaurant but as men dealing with...
Read moreMy personal favorite of all Mexican restaurants we have gone to! To be honest we had a reservation for another then cancelled that one and went to Quiote once again. So our Barcelona trip was marked with Quiote Mezcalería in the beginning and the end! Muchos Gracias Enrique and Martha who are from Oxaca, creating and serving the most delicious, authentic, made with love food in Barcelona (and one of the best including the ones I’ve eaten in Mexico City!) I was in dire need of topotos and was more than delighted to find out they make everything from scratch meaning from corn and not corn flour! Wow wow wow! We’ll definitely make it back again. And I must say the place is extremely cozy, lovely and lovely! It’s lovely to be and to be dining in a place these lovely people have extended from their own. Also, we have learned to drink mezcal like we are supposed to! Taking a sip and blowing it out! Mucho mucho mucho gracias. With love from M + N from Istanbul,...
