Our experience at Ca La Nuri was a bit of a disappointment. We initially found out about this restaurant from our tour guide. I typically have high expectations for restaurants especially when they've been reccomended by a local. I was so excited to try the paella. When we were sat down, initially the service was great. The view and the ambiance were really nice. Our server helped us out by recommending a specific paella dish, which I went with. When she brought our food, she just sat it down on the table and then disappeared. She did not warn us that the pan was too hot to touch or even checking in to make sure the food was good. Our dish had prawns and we were not provided tools to crack the claws open with. We had to flag someone down to get them since our server was nowhere to be found. The dish itself tasted good but was not nearly the amount of food we were expecting. The dishes required a minimum of 2 people, but the dish we were given was hardly enough food for one person. There was barely any rice. They basically just lined the bottom of the pan with rice and threw in 2 prawns and 2 clams. The edges around the pan were also burnt. After finishing our food, we still had to wait a while longer to receive the check. We then noticed our server was sitting down taking a smoke break. In the end a different staff member had to flag her down for us so she could get us our bill. While the place itself was lovely, our experience overall sadly...
Read moreMy wife and I were recommended this place by a local friend who claimed this spot was the go-to for paella.
1 star for the beautiful setting on the beach, and pretty cool bathroom sinks.
We decided to go against the menu of the day because we had heard such good things about the menu from a local friend.
Went with the “Paella Ca La Nuri” which was recommended by our server “Glen” who proceeded to quickly push the “fish of the day” on us. Before we could get a grip on what was happening we were 75€ in the hole, which he accepted with a smile even after we had told him the white “fish of the day” (which was left virtually untouched on the plate) was simply inedible due to being very tough and without any flavor whatsoever.
The Paella was bland. Which they tried to make up for with copious amounts of salt (as stated in previous reviews) and contained only 3 mussels and two over cooked prawns.
WHATEVER YOU DO do not go for the “fish of the day”. Other reviewers share the same experience.
Perhaps ordering things other than their seafood, showing up in a suit and being a Spanish native changes things, but for us this place put a serious damper on our otherwise exquisite culinary experiences in Barcelona.
I review almost all places we visit and have NEVER given a 1 star review.
Save yourself a bellyache and go literally anywhere else.
Will never...
Read moreProbably if they show more concern to their food than seating customers to specific tables, they might serve something good. We ordered fried calamari which had excessive salt and crystal bread had no salt; there was hardly any taste of tomato or olive oil on the bread. We also ordered vegetable lasagna - I don’t know what to say about it. It was just okayish; and it left a very weird aftertaste on my tongue for a very long time. For dessert we ordered Citrus tiramisu which was better than the rest of the food but it would have been better to avoid it - the base was very dry and the mascarpone was powdery!! they were making customers with fancy outfits sit on the outer ends of the terrace (the edge side) while not letting ones with simple clothing sit there by giving some or the other reasons. I noticed that when they denied a family of 4 even though the table was not reserved and they gave some very silly reasons. When the fancily dressed group arrived, they led them...
