Barcelona | My Honest Review of 15 Restaurants I Actually Ate At!

Truly a disappointing experience. I made a reservation on Monday for dinner Sunday evening at 20:30. We arrived at the restaurant on time, but I had to hunt for the host to be seated. We waited for twenty minutes before a server even came to our table. In general, the service was terrible. The service consisted basically of having the food brought to the table. No checking to see if everything was okay. No checking to see if we needed additional drinks or more water. Nothing. We had the Caesar salad, which was served with corn chips (breakfast cereal) instead of croquettes. It was quite weak. We also had the seafood paella for two, which was disappointing. The 23€ price per person was too high. The quantity of seafood in the dish would have been appropriate for one person, but not two. It was overpriced, even for a restaurant on the beach. Comparing the photo of the dish we were served to others online, I wonder whether they were skimping for lack of seafood. After we had finished the main dish, we waited for half an hour for the server to notice we were done and bus our plates. He asked us whether we wanted coffee and dessert and we said absolutely not. It took another twenty minutes to get the attention of someone to present us with the check. I got up from the table and complained to the manager. When that failed to produce a timely result, I walked back to the bar, found the server myself and demanded the check. The restaurant was operating at about 3/4 capacity, with lots of empty tables. Even with limited staff, there is no excuse for such careless service. The servers did not seem to be rushed, they just were not paying attention to the customers. Neither was the manager, which is inexcusable. We observed the couple sitting at the table next to order cocktails first that were not delivered to them until after they had begun eating their entrée, so even the bartenders were slow. The poor service was obviously being experienced by other people, too. This was only our second night on vacation in Barcelona. We were looking forward to a romantic Sunday evening dinner on the beach. A friend who had eaten lunch at the Restaurante Agua recommended it for the beach location. The view was nice, but the lackadaisical service at Restaurante Agua ruined what might have been a nice time. I’ve added a photo of the lackluster seafood paella. You can do better elsewhere. I gave a one-star rating, both for poor service and for disappointing, overpriced food. I usually do not post negative reviews, but I would not recommend Restaurante Agua to anyone.

This is probably the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. I have never been so mistreated by staff while eating mediocre food as I was in Agua. To begin with, me and my friends waited more than 5 minutes until the girl at the door looked at us to take us to a table. I’m not exaggerating when I say that we literally stood 5 minutes at the entrance looking at her while she did other things she thought were more important. When we finally got to the table, we waited about 15 minutes until we managed to call the waiter (who was very unfriendly) to our table to take our orders. We ordered water. He brought the water bottle but no cups. Since we were thirsty we stood up and picked up the cups of an empty table next to us. When we did this, the staff laughed at us and then proceeded to bring cups to us. When it comes to the food, they don´t do it well either. We ordered some tapas like the croqueta and the tartare tacos that aren't anything special. I can safely say that this is the worst croqueta I ate in Barcelona. Not because it was bad, but simply because the others were just a lot better. The paella we ordered was burnt and not special at all. One of my friends ordered pasta with seafood, which was so tasteless and bad looking that it seemed like airplane food. We of course weren't satisfied, so we gave a chance to the steak, that wasn't any good either. To worsen, there were lots of flies getting in our way while we ate, which was extremely annoying. When we finished, it took some time until someone looked at us so we could order the check. When we managed to do so, obviously they also took some time to bring the check to us. We shared the bill in a way that each paid for what they had eaten, so I had to pay less than 20 Euros (In a 200+ Euros Bill), because I had only eaten the tapas. When I said what I was going to pay, the waiter laughed at me, even though, of course, my friends would pay the rest of the bill. I have never seen something like this in my life. I have probably been repetitive but this was 100% the WORST RESTAURANT I have ever been to in my life. Agua is the definition of a TOURIST TRAP. Unfortunately this was my last meal in Barcelona, and it couldn’t have been a worse farewell to this amazing city.
