A star candidate. Without a sliver of doubt. Each and every dish no matter how contemporary or classic from an outlandish chromic burrata concotion to the quintessential gilda, el rectangle adds their own twist on every single plate. In doing so, they create an experience so authentically Catalan yet all encompassing by drawing on influences throughout the globe, whether it be from the Venezuelan asado negro or a grandmother’s sauce (You know when you suck shrimp heads and get an overwhelming wave of thalassic umami? Well it’s even more concentrated). In addition to their high level of gastronomy, their dedication to customer service and consistency were peerless. For example, Marti (our host) literally called their sommelier who was away due to a motor accident for recommendation. I mean they even gave us free shirts! We can attest to their consistency as we re-ordered their squid as well as their chicken and they remained amazing (a true testament to their quality). The atmosphere was also intensely intimate due to the limited space and made more personal by the conversations had with their team. Marti, Marcus, Carlos and their team will elevate el rectangle into a household name amongst the Barcelonian culinary scene, of this I’m certain. After wrapping up a business meeting, we wandered the area without any specific plans and ended up at El Rectangle—and what a great decision that turned out to be.

The food was absolutely outstanding. The seasonal small plates were prepared with remarkable care and attention to detail. Each dish offered a wonderful balance of flavors and textures, with fresh ingredients and creative combinations that felt both comforting and original.

The croqueta, in particular, deserves a special mention — crispy on the outside, perfectly creamy inside, and full of rich, satisfying flavor. It was easily one of the highlights of the meal.

The wine selection was another pleasant surprise — thoughtful, well-matched with the menu, and clearly chosen with an eye for quality.

If you're visiting the city — for work or with friends — this is without a doubt a top choice. The quality is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable.

This place is worth the trip no matter where you’re staying in the city. Every dish felt like a masterclass in flavor—thoughtfully curated, perfectly balanced, and unforgettable. The variety, the unexpected pairings… absolutely next-level!!!

Honestly, I’d eat here even if it were tucked in a back alley with no sign—but instead, you get an open kitchen, a charming interior, and incredible service.
