Montolio Can Maño — Restaurant in Barcelona

We got our food and our bill. I suppose that is about as good as I can rate the service. They are not particularly friendly or helpful, but we did get what we ordered, once we were able to place the orders.

The food here is pretty darn good. Much of it consists of breaded and fried options, which are not my usual fare, but I cannot deny how good most of it is. The fried calamari is some of the best that I have had. A number of their other seafood options are also quite good, with the grilled options being my favorites. We also had some of the beef on offer. The fried eggplant was tasty as well. The desserts were nothing exciting, with the flan and crema catalana appearing to be out of a package.

The restaurant itself is small, with a limited number of tables. It is a quaint neighborhood place that seems to have caught on with the tourists.

Don't order the salad. It is a waste of money--no nutritional value in it.

It is not as cheap as some other reviewers seem to indicate. Each individual dish is relatively affordable, but when you add up a number of small plates, the total gets to be rather more expensive.

Worst service ever. What a shame. We arrived at 13:00 and planned to have a table for 4 persons. There were plenty of table for 4 persons available at 13:00. They don't take reservations. Rough and unwelcoming service. The waiter took our names and made us wait until our group was complete. So we saw plenty of people getting in and taking tables except us. 10 min later our group was complete and the waiter now said that now we could wait for a table...About 40min. Incredibly stupid waiter and very bad customer service. Never saw that before. Amazed by the unprofessional behaviour. He could have given us a table for 4 people at 13:00 when we arrived and when there were tables available... We were super upset and went out of the restaurant and the waiter / boss I don't know followed us a few meters down the street. Amazing professionals here. What a joke. Do not support businesses that do not even care about their customers. If I could give a minus 10 I would do it. But yeah, you got point, 1 star is...

Listen up, I'm gonna give you some advice on what to expect before embarking on your dinning experience at this rustic culinary gem.

First off this place is extremely popular with both locals and tourists a like. Also bare in mind, this place is only open from 8-11 in the evening so be prepared for a 45 minute standing wait outside, don't like the sound of that? then either go and get a drink from one of the many bars around the corner or whip out your guide or google maps and look elsewhere.

Be patient, remain calm and stay polite, and it will be reciprocated, be a whiney tourist, and expect a similar retort. This isn't high class silver service dinning, but good honest local cuisine. It's great value for what you get, just make sure you have cash in hand...
