Rocambolesc — Restaurant in Barcelona

The ideia já great, everything catches your attention and the ideas and flavor combinations look promising. But in the end nothing has any taste. The chocolate popsicle with salt and olive oil doesn't taste like chocolate, or olive oil, and definitely doesn't have any salt in it. The hand popsicle also doesn't taste like anything, it was supposed to be blood orange and mango, but neither me or my wife could discern any of those, it tasted like water. I suppose the 5 star reviews are from people that tried the soft ice creams with loads of toppings, like the one I tried for example, the marshmallow topping actually tasted like marshmallow, but the actual ice-cream (panettone) flavor didn't taste like anything as well. I bet this place only survives because everybody wants to try it for the first time, but would never come back, and being surrounded but tourists...

This place came highly recommended from a Barcelona local since the Roca brothers are world renown and I had high hopes. When I walked in, I thought the 15 or 16 ice cream flavors on the left of the store were being served, but quickly realized they were only serving about 5 or 6 flavors of soft serve (none of which I saw on the wall). Of the offered flavors, I asked if I could have two flavors in a small cup and the attendant said that I could, so I chose half vanilla and half apple pie. However, it wasn’t until I left the store and finished the top layer of ice cream until I realized I only got vanilla, which was basic tasting. I was quite surprised to find such sophisticated ice cream at such accessible prices. Despite not having broad offering of flavours, the few they have are far too good. The creaminess and complexity of the soft serves was something different. The chef’s recommendation are quite interesting and transform a normal soft serve into a unique combination of flavours. I like the fact that there’s new flavours coming out every now and then, making every time you visit a new experience.
