I came here as there were great reviews. It was the one restaurant I researched which had great paella. We ordered beef and chicken croquettes and red seafood paella for two. One of the beef were absolutely rancid. I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth for a good 10 minutes. I complained to the manager and she was apologetic. I asked to have them replaced by two chicken croquettes.
The wrong paella came with the black squid instead of regular and had three mussels and two clams which were unopened which I assumed were undercooked but when my husband tried one, it was rancid and the others smelled off. There are only 4 varieties of seafood on there and 50% were rotten. Any chef should have realized that is unacceptable. The fact that two out of three items ordered were spoiled makes we wonder what other food safety issues were in the kitchen.
My husband recommended we just pay for the meal and leave but when the bill came and I saw I was charged for the rotten croquette as well as the two chicken I had them replaced by, I was fuming. I asked to speak to a manager and she didn’t seem to want to hear to much of what I was saying. At that point, I had already posted some of this review and she had probably already seen it as she made a sarcastic comment about it when I exited.
She took the bill and went to her till and retuned with the full amount for food (we payed for our drinks) which I thought was fair based on the situation. However, it does not change the fact that there are food safety issues and a terrible chef. Do yourself a big favour and eat elsewhere. The paella I had at a random restaurant geared towards tourists on La Ramblas was...
Read moreExcellent restaurant I happened to find when searching for paella and close to where we were staying at the apts at ciutat vella. Family of six from cleveland OH. We just could not get enough of this place. Started with the mussels or Mejillones a la cazuela which are much larger portions than what we are accustomed to in the states. They were excellent as we gobbled them up. I think 1 would be enough for most families but 4 of us love mussles and these were fantastic. They have so many interesting tapas. We ordered about 6 and they were all great eg: fried olives(never had these before - simlar to our common fried pickles but better imo), chicken croquets, and our favorite marinated sirloin beef tips. Two of us ordered Paella 1 with black rice which I had never seen before. Very good but not oustanding. I've had better back in the states but I think they just make it differently here. We were right next where the paella chef was making these large skillets of paella where we got a huge show. Some of the skillets were as large as a small table really. Two of my younger sons (14,15) ordered the pasta carbonara and steak entrecote and both were very good. When you first look into the restaurant, it does appear a little narrow with many seats mainly on the left hand side but it does open up into the back where we got a seat at about 8p but close to 9p it was packed. The wait staff was excellent, of course, easily conversing in English. We should have just come back here the next night as we tried another one right on La Rambla which was terrible - we were in a rush and after sight seeing all day and didn't have time to look...
Read moreWent there after not being able to find a place with good reviews for a good paella.
We were 2 people, ordered an appetiser which was french fries with cheese and pesto sauce, a sea food paella (for 2 persons) and bread for 1 person.
The taste of the French fries were fair enough and it was something different for me. I liked it. The paella was very good, tasty enough but I think a bit too “fatty”. It had plenty of sea food inside including big nice pieces of tuna and it was more than enough for 2 persons even if we hadn’t take any appetisers. Liked! About the bread…. Ordered bread for one person and we just got a small bread roll and charged for it 1.60€ (!!!). In our opinion that’s a bit OOOOVER priced. At least bring something more. Although the bread was really good.
In general terms, the restaurant was nice, the staff was polite, but a bit pricey.
P.S: At first we wanted to order 2 different kind of paellas, but the waiter told us that if we wanted 2 different paellas we would have to wait 20 min for the first one and another 20 min for second one because they can only make 1 at a time. That’s ridiculous for big restaurant like this. What happens if it’s busy and many tables order different paellas?
P.S2: You can see the bread roll at the...
