As a Barcelona native, this is one of the saddest places I have visited. This rooftop should be amazing. It is located in the center of the city with amazing views and could be great. But, who is running this place?
First off, you are charged a ridiculous $20 cover, which makes absolutely no sense if you are a reasonable customer, but (maybe?) makes sense for the low end tourists that this place seems to want to attract. Ok, I don't care about the cover, but charging it on my card before I even sit down when I am coming here for dinner and drinks? Seriously? This just gives you a hint of whoever is running this place has no clue how to deal with customers willing to spend their money.
As mentioned above, the views are amazing. That gets it the 3 stars on the atmosphere. But, everything else is well below. Why would a place like this offer hookah/shisha smoking? Mind boggling. I have nothing against smokers, but the hookah plus the fact that most tables seemed to smoke tobacco like there is no tomorrow did affect the atmosphere, to be honest. This felt more like a 3 star hotel lobby than a nice rooftop.
Then there was the service, which was terrible. I am not surprised the phrase "rude staff" is used in many reviews. We waited for over 30 minutes to get water delivered to our table and I had to ask for it three times. The bottle of wine took roughly as much. The worst part of the service came in as we were leaving the place. As we were waiting for the elevator, which btw is extremely slow and inconvenient, someone from the hotel/restaurant literally walked in front of us with some customers and took our spot in the line! I confronted him when I went down a few minutes later and his excuse is that he "was with some clients". WTF. What am I? Not a client?
The food is a hit or miss, but the misses are really epic. As others have mentioned in their reviews, please do yourself a favor and stay away from the Pizzas! They are taken straight from the frozen isle of Mercadona (low end supermarket in Spain). We ordered the one with Iberian ham and could not see or taste the ham. What a waste. The octopus and the croquetas were ok though. So, again, a hit or miss. Three stars.
Really. If you want to have a good Barcelona experience, avoid this place. And, if you are the owner or anyone that cares, please change the management of this spot. It could be a gem and it is...
Read moreI can't really evaluate their food and service, but I definitely want to share my experience with their crew and organization. On June 19, 2024, I knew there would be a major event happening at Passeig de Grácia. Being an organized person, I decided to make a reservation for the Sky Bar three weeks in advance.
The reservation was accepted for seven guests, and everything seemed fine.
One week before the event, I called the bar to ask if I could get a table of my choice. After many unanswered calls, I decided to call the hotel directly, and they transferred me to the bar. Finally, I spoke with a guy who was clearly not interested in talking to customers. He informed me that I could not choose a specific table as it was first come, first served. While I respect their rules, his condescending tone was unnecessary.
The week of the event arrived, and everything seemed fine. I informed all my guests to come early, and some of us canceled afternoon meetings to ensure we could get to the rooftop bar early.
However, one day before the event, I received a call from their staff canceling my reservation. They claimed there was an order from the city hall not allowing reservations due to the large number of people expected in the area.
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it make more sense to only allow people with reservations when too many are expected? This sounded like a very lame excuse to profit more from people having to arrive hours earlier and stay longer.
The staff member even had the audacity to tell me that I could still come.
So, this was my amazing experience with Sky Bar Iberostar. I hope you enjoy it and avoid the place if you care about...
Read moreIn order to experience another highlight on our last evening on our vacation, we decided to visit the Sky Bar in the Iberostar. On wednesday we went to the hotel to make a reservation for Saturday evening. We were told there was no need to make a reservation. Nevertheless, we made a reservation with the request for a seat with a good view. On Saturday we came to the hotel and were asked for our reservation for the Sky Bar right at the entrance. Entry would not have been possible without a reservation! When we arrived at the top, then the lady informed us that 20 € per person would be charged for entering the Sky Bar, but we would get a cocktail in return. A waiter then led us to seating steps with artificial turf on which we should take a seat. There we neither had a comfortable seat, nor a table, nor a view of the city. We then complained that we expected something else and wanted a new seat. We were told we should wait 15 minutes, then we would get the next free seat with a table and a nice view. After 20 minutes we asked again and received a glass of champagne as an apology. Then we actually got a wonderful place. It should be noted that the token from admission is only valid for non-alcoholic cocktails or long drinks. You pay extra for mojitos etc. In addition, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks have the same name, which is why we served an alcoholic drink while requesting something non-alcoholic. The cocktails and nachos were really delicious. All in all, the food, drinks and the view, depending on the seat, are great, but the service and prices leave a lot...
