Well I don't know what to say about this one. We have been coming to Benidorm for years, and my wife uses a small mobility scooter that we bring from home. It does not have a big range on the small battery. We had come all the way from Port Benidorm which is the other side of Benidorm. What we normally do to make sure we have enough power get back is to ask the bar or restaurant if we can bring the battery in and charge it while we eat. In all the times we have been coming to Benidorm we have never had a problem with this until today. I helped my wife get from the scooter to the chair and I was going to ask if we could put the battery on charge. A waiter came up to my wife in and said you can't leave the scooter there (we were not going to do that. We had not had time to move it)." It was not in anyone's way, but he had a big problem with it. I told him we were going to move it, but I was not happy how he spoke to my wife and then myself. I then asked if I could take just the battery inside while we had a meal. He said without thinking, NO. I pointed out that we had come from the other side of Benidorm and would not have enough power to get back. He begrudgingly said he would go and ask the owner if I could charge it. He never came back. A woman came to us and ask if we wanted to order. I asked her if we could charge the battery, her attitude was not much different from the other guy. She said she would go and ask. By this point I felt like I was begging for 2cents worth of electricity and decided to go. We packed up our things and my wife got back on her scooter and left. We had gotten to the other end of the square before she came back out again. She said it would be OK to charge the battery! By this time we did not want to eat there no mater how good the food might have been. All I can say is we got a short-sighted bad attitude from both the staff. We moved on to another restaurant down the road. It was great meal and lovely staff. All I can say is why...
Read moreSherry's Bar is tucked away in the heart of the Old Town near the Church and viewpoint and first impressions were that it's a traditional, cosy British pub.
I spent the winter in Benidorm & sought out this pub based on rave reviews on various Facebook pages.
I ordered a pint of Mahou (€4.20), found a table and I was swiftly presented with a menu. I knew more or less straightaway what I had my heart set on and opted for the steak pie (€10.95). Initially I was going to have it with chips, although I changed my mind for mash as the waitress was about to walk away, which was met with a bored eye-roll. I think she went to the Basil Fawlty charm school - quite ignorant and abrasive, with grey spiky hair to match her nippy attitude.
The steak pie arrived and it's up there with the best steak pie I have ever had. It was delicious and cooked to perfection with thick, gloopy gravy, fresh vegetables and creamy mash. Really delicious.
I was left unimpressed with the attitude of the waitress, lack of atmosphere and the prices of the drinks. Even the barman said to the Thai waitresses that the drinks prices are expensive and the Mahou was the most expensive in the Old Town.
Another thing I object to is being asked if I want my change when I pay my bill with notes. Yes I do want my change, which came in a small wooden box with a business card. I didn't leave the staff a tip for that reason.
I was left with the impression that this pub is trading off its reputation as a food pub and has become complacent.
You wouldn't go to Sherry's for a drink as it has no atmosphere at all and is simply somewhere to go, eat and leave.
Interestingly, they have removed the option to leave a review on their Facebook page. The mixed reviews on here speaks volumes.
I wouldn't be in any hurry to return, nor would I recommend it. Overpriced, overrated and nothing special. There's much better and welcoming places around the Old Town which offer a better...
Read moreAbsolute Gem of a place, I followed the reviews already on here & all I can say is thank God I did. What can I say but a warm welcome as we walked in a great menu to choose from & wonderful specials on the board. After we ordered drinks (Newcastle Brown, a couple of Shandys &a Coors) we ordered food I opted for the Fish & Chips whilst my wife ordered the Steak Pie & Chips & Veg. Our friends ordered the half Roast Chicken & salad whilst my other friend ordered the Farmers Platter off the Specials board (an absurd amount of food). All I can say Is we were blown away with each meal, they tasted gorgeous & great value. If you are in Benidorm you must try this place it is well worth the visit. Also I have to say the desserts were divine, I had the Carrott Cake my wife & friend had the Lemon Meringue & my other friend had Sticky Toffee with proper custard (Birds we think) all was absolutely fantastic. We finished it off with a coffee & 3 of the best cups of tea in Benidorm, and to top it off we were served by a charming waitress called Agha...
