I was disappointed by the attitude of your bar staff. I don't mind at all about being asked for ID (took it is a compliment at 29) but was annoyed by the way the barman handled the situation afterwards. He was quite rude in response to my sister when she couldn't produce any. She, unfortunately was asked to leave if she didn't have ID. I worked in a bar for many years and understand fully why ID is important but there was no explanation or guidance towards the signs in the bar stating it's apparent policy on this (clearly we did not see this). I am quite appalled with the threatening and immature responses to other reviews (taking this further) because people were not happy with the attitude of it's staff. If the owner(s) were sensible, a simple apology or polite explanation would have sufficed as is expected when in business and the hospitality trade. Me and my family have visited the Pig and Whistle in the last few years and my dad especially enjoyed its atmosphere. Now that we are aware of it's policy, we still might return next year and bring with us our ID. The point of this review was to highlight mine and my sister's disappointment to the way we were treated (by both the barman and online responses) and not because of your policy. I hope in the future that your customers (in person and online) were spoken to with a bit more courtesy, whether you agree with their opinion (or the validity of their...
Read moreCalled in again on Thursday night, just caught the last couple of songs from a Country and Western style sing. Following was Heart Breaker who we saw Monday night. Still rocked it well, but a similar set to Monday's set.
Yesterday, Friday night, we called in to see Elvis. To us, this is what's missing from our TV's nowadays, good, old fashion, no nonsense, close to the knuckle entertainment. Elvis was doing alright for a guy who died in 1977, singing requests, not only from his own catalogue but also from other well known singers. His Johnny Cash rendition was bloody marvellous.
We had the best seats in the house, a high table, and two high seats just in front of the pool table with unrestricted views of the stage between the columns.
The whole performance was a delight. It was like watching a montage of 1970's and 1980's shows all rolled into one. Mixed together we had, "Some bloke from Bolton on Stars in their Eyes, Freddie Starr impersonating Elvis, and the comedic touches of Tommy Cooper and Les Dawson."
Such a joyous evening all round, if this is your bag, get round to the Pig and Whistle. I think it closes Tuesday.
And gaffer, I don't think you're old enough to remember the 70's and 80's, but just keep doing what...
Read moreVisit this place with caution. We visited with a group of friends and were having a grand time listening to fun karaoke music and dancing. Standing in a crowded bar at the bar, where does one put his/her drink? On the bar, of course. After the song finished, we returned to our drinks but the bartender accidently took my friend's drink that wasn't finished. She asked for her drink. The female bar manager returned with three unfished drinks that she found on the back bar and aggressively asked "which one is yours!" You gotta be kidding me!? The bartender made an honest mistake taking her drink. Just make her another drink for Christ sake. Our big group had already dropped over 200 EUR in the bar. We found this shocking bad service (and stupid business). I found a guy who claimed to be the bar owner on our exit to share our experience (hoping he would have a chat with his rude bar "manager'). Clearly he revels in having a tourist bar because he only sees guests once. He told us to F-off "this is my bar and I make the rules". Clearly. Take tourists' money and send us on our way is their strategy. If you visit this place, you have been...
