I had the worst experience of my life a this restaurant. I went for dinner with my brother and soon realised that I was not feeling well. I noticed my stomach was unsettled so I told the waiter about it and asked for a camomile tea. I went to the toilet and realised that I had diahorrea. I then started feeling really dizzy so I came out of the toilet as I was worried about fainting inside with the door locked from the inside. As soon as I came out, I was about to faint when suddenly I started vomiting everything I had eating in the last 2 days. It all came out on the main basin so I told one of the waiters about it. Suddenly the owner came and told me off for making the mess, stating that the basin will now be blocked and I should have done it in the toilet. I noticed he never asked me how I was feeling or whether I needed a doctor or another camomile tea. He was only interested in his high class customers and how it would look to them. I didn't count as a customer at all. I had noticed he was very welcoming of his regular customers but we were new and clearly didn't fit in with them.
I told my brother we should leave after I paid €50 extra on the food bill to ensure I paid for the cleaning and whatever he thought I had done wrong.
My brother stopped to talk to the waiter and the owner who kept saying that it was wrong of me to have vomitted on the basin. I left the restaurant and waited outside. I then noticed the waiter and the owner/manager came to give me back the €50 I had paid extra. I said I didn't want to see him in front of me and the €50 could be given to staff as my tip to them.
I never seen such a lack of empathy by the owner or a manager for a customer in a restaurant that is described as upscale place. I will never returned an would not recommend it, if you need real treatment or get sick.
He made me feel as if I didn't count at all and I was not human. He had no people skills and no empathy at all.
My brother had to eat his food and mine, as I couldn't eat anything all and he...

We discovered Bilbao Berria Ledesma by chance while wandering through Bilbao with two foodie friends. From the street, it glowed with warmth and sophistication – the kind of place that makes you stop in your tracks. Through the window, I saw the amber lights and the bustle of happy diners, and turned to my friends. “Shall we go in?” That was the start of my love affair with this spot.
We sat at the bar near a huge glass keg of house-made vermouth, which instantly caught our attention. The bartender welcomed us warmly and, with theatrical precision, sliced a paper-thin circular twist of orange peel before dropping it into our glass. The vermouth was a revelation – subtle, smooth, and wonderfully quaffable.
The food was just as impressive: Croqueta de Jamón (€3.20), creamy and crisp, Pork Belly (€4.90), melt-in-your-mouth perfection. We loved it so much we came back later that evening for more – Mini Burger (€4.95), Taco Ternera (€5.50), Huevo Foie (€5.50) – each dish bursting with flavour and beautifully presented.
The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality, and the elegant, hidden dining room at the back is a welcome bonus.
This is hands down one of my favourite restaurants in Bilbao – warm, lively, affordable, and unforgettable. I’ll be coming back again...
