I can't believe anyone could complain about the food. OK, it's never going to be as good as authentic regional cuisine from Mexico, rather like expecting your average Chinese to taste like food from the kitchens of Bianyifang in Beijing...it's just no comparison. That said, it's damn good and the fact it was full 10mins after opening was testament to how good the locals felt about it. We were the only non-native diners...everyone else was Spanish...and local it seemed. The waitress was excellent, handled our appalling Spanish with great tact and professionalism. The food arrived quickly and was piping hot. We all had burritos, chicken and beef. Good sized portions, excellent fillings. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the beef. No complaints from three hungry bikers. Before anybody says 'yeah, but you guys will eat anything' let me assure you, as a qualified chef with over 45yrs in the catering industry I'm your restaurant nightmare...but for the cost, this place delivers. Do not hesitate to eat here. If you ever have a bad meal then it's because they've changed chef, but for the moment, get here for 20:00hrs, grab a table and enjoy...
Read moreAfter several failures elsewhere, I’d completely given up on having edible Mexican food outside of North America. But 1810 Tacos changed that! The food here is every bit as good as the stuff back home. As a Mexican food aficionado who has spent multiple months in Mexico pursuing the most authentic cuisine and has eaten at thousands of Mexican restaurants and taquerias across the US, I can tell you that the food here would, while perhaps not be super authentic to a specific region of Mexico, would absolutely not be out of place at any good-quality pan-Mexican restaurant on either side of the US-Mexico border. The tacos are crafted in the style of authentic street tacos (some, like the shrimp tacos, have some elevated sauces), and the enchiladas are beautifully smothered in authentic salsas (pretty sure I detected the flavor of guajillos in mine). The meats are succulent and the tortillas appear to be handmade of thick masa.
This place would not only would this satiate my frequent craving for Mexican if I lived here—it would also be one I’ll be seeking to return to on my next trip...
Read moreFirst in at 8pm along with one other group. We received a patatas dish with pulled pork which wasn't what we ordered but similar. We also ordered a shrimp dish which never arrived. Then the bill showed some combo dish which we didn't order or indeed eat. Veg Tacos were excellent. Chilli bowl was OK but very salty. Patatas pulled pork thing was very rich with what tasted like heinz barbecue sauce. The mix up with things we didn't order on the bill was sorted out immediately but shouldn't have happened in the first place. I'd go back for the nachos and the Cava sangria but...
