got recommended this place by a local and was so excited to go here, arrived and was greeted by a lovely waiter who was friendly, got handed off to the lady whom was meant to assist, at first she looked me up and down and asked abruptly drinks or food and I said drinks for now but maybe also food and then walked away, I stood there for about 3 - 4 minutes waiting, another gentleman came out and I told him I’m not sure what’s happening at this time the lady comes back (2 more minutes probably passed) and she pointed at a table far in a corner and said sit there, didn’t give me menus or anything, I patiently waited and waited, the same lady served the two tables next to me with such great customer service, yet never approached me, 1/2hr passed I flagged the first waiter I could see and asked for a menu in which she just placed them on the table and went to walk away, I asked her to wait so I could order a drink at least as I had already been waiting 1/2hr she didn’t respond to this at all however waited and took my drink order and I said I’ll hold on to the menu as I may want order some food, she just walked away. My drink arrived and then no one came back to check if I wanted to order food or anything during the time I was having my drink, also note we are in Granada Spain and it is customary to provide tapas with drinks that didn’t happen obviously, I got up and went to the counter to pay as I didn’t want wait another 1/2hr, the man who went to take my payment was shocked and appalled and refused me to pay for my drink he was very kind and apologetic and insisted I stay for dinner, at this point I was too embarrassed and just wanted to leave because I honestly was about to cry. This women server made me feel so embarrassed to be sitting in this restaurant, like I couldn’t afford to be there, she does not know me or what I do for a living, all the other tables around me kept looking at me and whispering to each other, I have never felt so embarrassed and ashamed for doing nothing wrong. I was not dressed weird, I had a simple summer dress on, walking shoes and nice accessories, I appreciate the kindness of the man who tried to rectify the issue but by this point it was too late, I have travelled around Spain a lot and this was by far the worst service (non service really) and experience I have ever had, I don’t think this women server realised how much courage it sometimes takes to sit in a restaurant alone and dine yet to be neglected the whole time was truly disheartening...

Excellent food in a perfect setting
We were taken here by a professor from the University of Granada, born and bred in the town, so expected to have a great time. We were not disappointed.
The restaurant is in a "carmen", an old walled pleasure garden, with clear views across the valley of the Darro to the Alhambra.
It has three main eating areas. A shady terrace, a dining room with picture windows, and for those in the know like our professor, a small upstairs room with a large covered balcony and even more spectacular views.
We were served drinks with free tapas on the balcony while we chose our food. The pata negra ham was exquisite, and a good-sized portion for the price. The grilled vegetables could have fed four. The asparagus wrapped in ham, then grilled and served on a bed of sauce mousseline was just the right amount. Which was a pity, since everyone else wanted some so I got less.
The view wasn't just off the the Alhambra. In the other direction we could see another Carmen garden, with terraces shaded by lilac and white wisteria whose scent rose to our room.
There was not much choice of fish for main, just salmon, cod and seabass. Granada is inland. But our meat choices of Iberian pork, chicken in mustard and honey, and steak, were all very good, large helpings, and arrived piping hot despite being carried up the winding staircase.
We declared ourselves too full for dessert, but were persuaded to have a plate of mixed mini desserts to share.
After the meal, the Prof took us first into the Wisteria filled Carmen and then a little further along into another University department which had an amazing hidden garden of clipped box trees, orange trees, irises and tinkling water.
You won't get to see those, but you can get to eat extremely well in...
Read moreWe booked this place hoping for a nice evening overlooking the Alhambra. Unfortunately, trees block most of the view from the terrace — they really should consider trimming them back or planting shorter trees, as the view is their best asset.
Walking in was confusing. There are vague signs pointing to the restaurant even though you’re already standing on the terrace, and when we entered the front desk, several staff walked straight past without acknowledging us. I was about to leave when someone finally seated us at our booked table.
The starters were all quite heavy, so we went with the bread and olives. Unfortunately, it felt like they’d gone with the cheap option — day-old bread, budget olives, and a random plastic packet of breadsticks. At a restaurant like this, plastic-wrapped breadsticks really shouldn’t appear on the table.
The menu in general is very meat-heavy, with little that looks fresh or light — lots of browns on the plate. I had the sea bass, my wife the chicken. Both were passable but decidedly average. The fish itself was cooked well, but the roasted vegetables were mushy, and the whole thing sat in an oily puddle that gave the plate a sloppy appearance. The chicken was fine, but again looked like something a home cook had thrown together.
This place has real potential: great atmosphere, good venue, enviable location. But the food and service both felt half-hearted. At the moment, it gives off strong...
