I ate at El Mirador with a group of seven adult family members. It was an event to remember in every positive way. Our seats were on the balcony, overlooking the dramatic coastline below. The views and sounds were stunning. Most of us had an amazing selection of fish and seafood dishes, which is the specialty of the house, but our vegetarian member had an excellent starter and main. Every part of each meal was exceptional, including sole, sea bass, lobster, choco (very similar to cuttlefish-squid) prawns, mussels, razor clams, scallops and other items. The attention to detail, cookery, seasoning and accompaniments were all perfectly executed. We shared a few lovely bottles of Sauvignon Blanc, which is among the very best I’ve had…and very reasonably priced. Our waiter, Rafael was one of the less experienced members of staff (six months on the job), but he was extraordinary. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating, funny and very pleasant. He has obviously been very well trained. Every part of the restaurant was spotlessly clean. We stayed past closing time and watched a large team clean the entire restaurant to a very high standard. One of our group is a retired public health inspector; he was highly impressed with what he saw. This was the best experience we have had in any restaurant we can remember, and we are all seasoned travelers and dedicated foodies. I can’t tell you how much I recommend El Mirador (The Lookout in English) for anything from a quiet afternoon beer on the front patio to a romantic dinner for couples, a large group dinner or whatever. It is fantastic. Google Reviews should reserve a 6-star rating for places...
Read moreThis is a lovely restaurant in a really lovely setting. We sat out on the terrace, which was delightful even in December. However if you want to sit on the terrace you will very likely need to book ahead.
Everything was cooked beautifully, from the garlic prawns, to the chopitos, the massive fresh oysters were beautifully prepared, the grilled cheese is done on the asador and has a wonderful smoky flavour. The mussels were done in a divine peppery tomato sauce. Two of our group shared a piece of the fish of the day, it was huge. We paid by weight and it totalled out at 51 euros which seemed very fair for such a well cooked dish. It could easily have gone between three. We shared two bottles of well priced listan Blanco. The two desserts we also had were also lovely. A creme catalana and a chocolate and coconut cake. The creme Catalana may be the best I've ever had. Even the bread here is excellent which is not surprising as it is homemade.
The one single food let down was the avocado salad. Whilst the preparation was lovely, the avocado itself was watery and tasteless. However that was one small blip.
The service we found to be professional but not particularly friendly. The kitchen is open, so it was great to be able to see all of the preparation and cooking going on. We had a hard to please chef in our party and he was impressed.
Our bill totalled out at 200 euros for four people which was certainly reasonable for the quality we enjoyed. Can't wait to come...
Read moreRestaurante El Mirador de los Abrigos is undoubtedly a prime spot in the evenings, located prominently above the small fishing harbor. It’s a lively restaurant with plenty of seating—outside, indoors, and on the balcony with a stunning sea view. If you want a balcony table, a reservation is a must. The place is always packed. The food quality is so so and prices have risen significantly. Unfortunately, what really left a bad impression on us was the rather aggressive upselling tactics used here. The head waiter strongly pressures guests to order the “fish of the day” (priced at €100 per kg!!), discouraging them from choosing other fish dishes on the menu, which are not locally sourced. If you decline the “fish of the day,” the waiter’s attitude shifts dramatically—friendly service disappears instantly. Another issue: Bread with green and red mojo sauce is always charged, whether you order it or not. If you’re willing to pay a premium for local fish or simply want to enjoy the fantastic view, this place might be worth a visit. However, after dining here twice, we find the price-performance ratio and the unfriendly service unacceptable. A real shame, given the...
