This Café/bar is located in Plaza Santa Ana in the heart of Madrid. During the years of the Spanish Civil War, Ernest Hemingway who used to cover the war for American news outlets, frequented this bar almost everyday. They still had the same table he used to sit at (at the window that overlooks the square) and there is a plaque commemorating The writer and a portrait of him. We sat outdoor in the plaza. Very busy, and extremely interesting place where you can spend hours watching Madrileno life goes by. The food is good. The prices reasonable. The service can be slow a little bit if the place is over-crowded. This Café/bar is a piece of history and present day brought together.

We had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The service from Celso was absolutely extraordinary. He truly made us feel at home in a foreign country. The food is amazing and the staff are super friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone who’s looking for a cool drink and fantastic food in air-conditioning or on a patio! Baldo is an excellent storyteller who made sure that we were well entertained and taken care of. Thank you for everything!

I like it most of all places at Santa Ana Square. The same as it was 27 years ago, when I started to visit it each time I was in the centre of Madrid. I prefer to stay inside, where you can ask for a canapé to be prepared as you wish, and the waiters are old and know their business at the level of perfection! Always attentive and good quality food with very reasonable price.

Worst waiter experience in 30 years of living in Spain, absolutely shameful. Which is too bad, because I have been happily going there intermittently for many years. An incredibly rude and, at points, even aggressive waiter, treating us contemptuously as if we were badly misbehaving children. Totally out of bounds for any waiter.

The cause of his ire was his own mistake, which he freely admitted, of having served us the wrong, more expensive kind of ham. We had no way of knowing that, as we had ordered a very similar kind of ham (ibérico, not jabugo), but he wanted to charge us for his own mistake.

After multiple visits to our table during which, again, he admitted that it was his mistake, he insisted on charging us the higher price. We insisted it was impossible to tell the difference between two very similar kinds of ham. He relented, then ended up shoving the credit card machine into my chest. A bona fide jerk who in my opinion should be fired--and a sign of bad management to allow an employee to treat customers this way.

I am perfectly fluent in Spanish, so there were no language issues. I have never had a problem here before--thus 2 stars instead of one--but I will not...

We've recently ordered 2 beers with lemon and after a few sips we realized we received 2 cocktails with lemon (the waiter realized it as well about his mistake) We although accepted to keep what we received for politeness and because we found it at our taste. The waiter making the mistake didn't take the initiative to add something else to compensate the mostske (a tapa or similar?) as professionals normally do. When we had to pay, another waiter came to bill us the drinks for 16€ instead of less 8€ we were supposed to. I told this 2nd waiter about his colleague's mistake, and I also had to explain him that usually, in this case (given we had no compensations) we were supposed to pay what we Ordered instead... ...the guy answered me that we drank what we ordered and that it just was what has been written in the bill, so we had to pay and that's it. Next time I'll be less polite, thanks Santa Ana...

The worst service I've ever experienced in Spain. Having lived in Spain for four years now I've never experienced anything like this poor quality of customer service. I arrived to meet my parents who are visiting for the weekend and was left to sit without a drink for 15 minutes while the waiters avoided catching my eye. Finally I had to get their attention by raising my hand, no hola nothing, just a 'what do you want' then we did not recieve the wine or the food that we we ordered, 10 minutes later I reminded them of the wine to which the waiter said nothing and just spilled it half on the table and half in the glass without a word. Then later when the food hadn't arrived I called him over again and he said what do you want this time which lead to an argument with the waiter and us leaving in a storm of rage ruining the day. Please note, this was in Spanish so there was no language...
