I visited El Anciano Rey de los Vinos in the late afternoon for an early dinner. The dining area is exclusively outdoors, with the indoor space reserved for drinks. Although guests are supposed to inform the waiting staff upon arrival to arrange tables, many people simply occupied empty tables on their own. It's advisable to follow protocol to avoid causing inconvenience to others. I came for the classic Spanish dishes and ordered the regalitos de torito - small portions of traditional oxtail stew wrapped in flaky puff pastry, topped with red piquillo pepper, and drizzled with savory sauce. The dish was available in full portions of four or half portions of two. I also had a side of patata ali-oli and a glass of vermouth. The regalitos de torito tasted very good, with a nice combination of meat and sauce, although the meat was somewhat dry and could have used more sauce. The patata ali-oli was a bit bland and also lacked sufficient sauce. The vermouth was refreshing. A notable aspect of dining here is the presence of numerous birds due to the outdoor setting. The waiter advised not to linger over food to avoid attracting birds, so it's best to eat promptly. Additionally, it's important to watch your belongings and not leave them unattended on the tables. Despite the bird issue and needing to eat quickly, the overall experience was positive, and I would definitely consider returning.

Very old place perfectly located just in front of the Catedral de la Almudena, and very close to the Palacio Real, having lots to visit before and/or after your meal. The meal started with their homemade Vermouth, followed by lovely and meaty calamares a la romana, the extremely delicious morcilla de Burgos and very good croquetas. But the star of the meal was, hands down, the "Regalitos de Torito", which basically means slow cooked bull tail meat, beautifully shredded and oven cooked with red peppers inside a phyllo dough... which basically brings you to a fulll food-gasm, also amplified when having a glass of red wine with it. To finish the feast we had the "Tarta de muerte por chocolate".. which is explained by itself. Can't wait to go back with my lovely wife and enjoy her reactions when she will try all those amazing dishes.

Beautiful traditional eateries located near the Royal Palace. Very traditional tapas menu with fantastic freshly cooked food. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Very traditional place you could easily just come for drinks or tapas but I would highly recommend both, we loved it. The wine choices are excellent try the house wine first you probably will be very happy. (One thing to note, the food is so nice but if you are used to UK tapas portions, you will find the portion sizes here about twice the size of at home so be careful not to over order. That said, they are so kind, the staff will package up food if you want to take away).

I was very disappointed in the food quality. The tapas are very large portions (more like family style) instead of small shareable plates. This is a very tourist oriented location, so I’d recommend a drink but not a meal. Extremely pricey for what you are getting. Potato bravadas are bland and simple, and the calamari is rubbery. Wait staff seem overworked, stressed, and that runs off on the interactions with guests. On a positive note, the views of the cathedral and outside seating are nice though!

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and didn't have high expectations because it's right across the palace. Had gazpacho, jamon and manchego cheese. The jamon was some of the best I've ever had. The gazpacho was excellent with tiny little pieces of cucumber, tomatoes and onions on the side to add to it. The manchego cheese with drizzled olive oil was perfect. Everything was top notch. The servers were so nice and sitting outside was great with views of the royal palace and a lovely park across it.

I LOVED THIS PLACE!!! It's across the street from the palacio. I had the regalitos de torito. A tender and flavorful bull's tail stew wrapped in layers of filo pastry, sprinkled with a balsamic glaze, and topped with a red pimiento, accompanied by au'jus for dipping. While I waited for my "regalitos" I ordered a caña, small draft beer, and was served a small plate of local delectable olives and a tostada (small toast) topped with tuna. My favorite meal in all of Spain 🇪🇸.
