La Fragua de Sebín — Restaurant in Madrid

Celebrated my birthday here. Antoniio, "the Boss" came to our table by request and made recommendations that blew us away! We started with the smoked burrata and strawberries that were presented covered with a glass dome filled with smoke. As the waitress served it, she commanded, "Don't open!". A few minutes later, she returned to remove the dome and invited us to partake. AMAZING! Next course was the Octopus (Pulpo in Spanish), which was mouth watering, tender- the best we have ever had! Antonio asked us 'fish or beef'? We went for the beef and not only was it delicious, but the experience of searing it ourselves at our table made the it more fun! This meal was accompanied with a couple bottles of Carmelo Rodero (Crianza 2015). Perfection. We highly recommend the food and wine, the atmosphere, and the personal service! A terrible, terrible place. Nothing for it. We were promised a table, which was given to someone else to our nose. Not an even a complimentary drink to make amends and make us wait. Then we ordered food : the mussels were awful (half of them were not even open) and the Thai rolls were obviously frozen food. All of this for double the usual tapas price. Then the service was rude and slow. And when we told the owner we had not quite liked the food, he offered to have more mussels sent to us - how kind when I was started to feel worried they might make me sick. Not only is the food extraordinarily good, the ambiance warm and cosy, but the staff are very welcoming and go above and beyond to help out.

We've been here before (and will be again), this time we brought my parents for lunch. My father suffered a bad choking fit due to an existing condition. The staff were so solicitous and helpful, offering to call a paramedic (luckily not needed) and bringing warm tea to soothe his throat. Their kindness was much appreciated by my family and helped make a stressful time less worrying.
