The most bizarre restaurant experience , bar none, ever. There was one other table occupied . At 18:15 we finished dinner . The young man at the register and our server had been on the phone and counting money for about 20 minutes so we waited . (We saw the money counting as we came down the steps from the bathroom at 18:15)(I had walked up there a couple of times but he never looked up. At 18:30 we heard him tell the other table he would be right back. The last we saw of him he had his backpack heading up the street. The chef told me he would be right back that he didn’t know how to use the register. 28 minutes later at 18:58 the chef called a lady who talked him through us paying our bill. During this 30 minute period the chef called “his friend”continually but got no answer . We had a 19:30 engagement and made it by using a Uber. We had figured our bill to be somewhere around 40 euro but both of us had fifties and I wasn’t about to leave that. The other option he gave us was to give him our number and we could come back and pay it after the show. Which I said I would walk it 15 minutes back tomorrow in the 100 degree heat but that wasn’t going to work. The other table of two girls who were still there when we left were helping us communicate. The chef called the lady after I said he could call the police but we were leaving .This was a shame although we had to cancel and change our reservation a couple of times on line we had booked this reservation a month or so ago. The food was excellent . I’m sure this was isolated but the experience at the time was so surreal I’m giving it one of my only less than 5 star...
Read moreTHIS PLACE WAS AMAZING. cannot emphasize that more. tucked away in a corner north of Gran Via, La Hummuseria was a hidden gem with a simple menu, intimate seating, and wonderful service. A vegan/vegetarian place, they served authentic middle eastern slow cooked food. They opened at 1pm and we showed up around 130 and the place was packed. In fact, we were told there was only one table available between now and 3pm. We sat down and wanted to order everything off the menu obviously because it all sounded great. Our waiter was kind enough to provide suggestions and we went with shashuka, white bean stew, and classic hummus. The hummus was topped with shaved almonds and pine nuts and drizzled in olive oil. Made me think why we don't always eat hummus like this. The pita was warm and fluffy and tasted freshly cooked. Between the shashuka and the unassuming white bean stew, the stew definitely took the prize. The flavors were so delightful and the rice perfectly cooked, I kept reaching for more. The Shashuka was also great with a side of tahini sauce and came with its own pita but my favorite has to be the white bean stew. I would definitely come back and encourage others as well. I would say the only downside was the food took a minute to get to us but that's the idea of slow cooked food I suppose. We were tempted to get dessert but seemed a tad pricey compared to the quantity. All in all, VERY satisfied and full and would...
Read moreThere is simply nothing to not love about La Hummuseria (almost). The staff is friendly, hard working and always goes above and beyond. The prices are good and the food is bafflingly great. The food looks mouth watering and the drinks do as well!
After visiting the restaurant multiple times with a small baby, a dog, two parents are carnists and my vegan fiancee I conclude that this restaurant ALWAYS delivers a great experience.
I suggest going with some red wine for the main course and a drink for dessert. Everyone at the table should get a hummus and a salad or tapas each, at least. The chili or lemon hummus is the best one of them according to me.
I do think that the dessert was nice too, but I'm not sure all of them are vegan (the menu didn't say) which kind of made that part of the evening a bit harder. I also think it is sad that there's a non vegan option on the tapas as I greatly appreciate being able to order anything...
