So you saw the queue outside, eh?
Call it either clever or cynical marketing (I lean towards the latter), but human nature is drawn to where other people judge as popular. Hence, the ever-growing queue of Basics by Goiko.
In reality, the till has been strategically placed next to the door so that anyone who isn't directly ordering must stand outside (and the staff seem to enjoy their power trip of frequently reminding burger-seekers that they cannot want on the premises). Add that to (give or take) 14 seats, and that's why you get reviews complaining of long waiting times.
And so, the food. I had a 10-15 min wait after ordering and a front row seat to witness the creation of the food. To not overload the burgers with beef, the two patties are not too big and have the life smashed out of them - to be honest, ending up only a couple of mm thick, I can see why others have said their beef ended up burnt. Mine, however, was not.
The burger itself was nothing to rave about: not terrible but nothing memorable. The already-too-small bun became too soggy and ripped itself apart. The fries on the other hand, were amazing. Crispy, but still fluffy on the inside, with a tasty seasoning. Not to mention that one of Basics' main draws is its unlimited fries.
The place gave me the impression that it thinks it's better than it is. The food should do the talking, rather than "cheating" to form a queue outside.
Will the addictive fries be enough to bring me back?...
Read moreHonestly, I can’t say it was the besttt burger or meal I’ve ever had but regardless, the whole experience deserves more than 4 stars. First of all, they offer Beyond meat, which is great in my opinion. Second of all, the fries are bomb. And third, the staff is absolutely amazing and so kind and helpful AND he gave me two free cookies. WTF! Thank you! I will definitely be back. Also, even though the burger could use a bit more flavor (sauce really), I did order the “basic burger” so what could I expect. Plus, the bacon was perfectly crispy and delicious. The only thing that wasn’t so good was the maple bacon cookie, the bacon chunks inside of it were kind of huge and so chewy that they were pretty much unchewable. That being said, it was free. All things considered, I...
