La Máquina Caleido — Restaurant in Madrid

Great first experience, we were celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday and they booked a table at La Máquina Caleido. This place is espectacular; from the ample space to the decoration. Surrounded by floor to ceiling windows, it's light and welcoming. The food is to die for, with vegetarian options (not that much for vegans I'm afraid). For starters we ordered the degustación de croquetas, artichokes and calamares. As mains, we ordered fabada, callos, fried haddock and the vegetarian rice. The food quality was outstanding, the rice (our main dish) was cooked to perfection, but everybody commented for exceptional the food was. And the wine, oh my goodness, if ordering red, please get a bottle of Ramon Bilbao, delicious! I wholeheartedly recommend this place, I'm just so sad I was just visiting Madrid as we live in London. But this will definitely be my place to go to next time we visit my in-laws in Madrid. The service was also outstanding, I cannot thank Mercedes and Michelle enough! They were amazing hosts and made my mother-in-law's birthday one to remember when they arrived with her dessert decorated with a huge sparkle stick. I’ve gone to this restaurant on multiple occasions with family and each time is more disappointing. The service is slow, unwelcoming, and borderline rude. The only good things to order at the restaurant are wine and appetizers. The food is overpriced frankly there’s always something wrong with it: if you order meat, it’s overcooked or undercooked; if you order the rice with lobster you get grey meat; and if you order it with a sauce, chances are it will be too salty. The restaurant is usually packed, but why, remains a mystery to me. It’s so loud that it’s impossible to have a conversation with the people seated in front of you. Servicio mucho más que lamentable y comida regular. Llegamos y nos sientan a 20cm junto a la única mesa de todo el restaurante que había ocupada de todo el restaurante a lo que hago intento de cambiarme pero me dice que están llenos (nos fuimos y las dos mesas de mi izquierda seguían vacías). En la reserva dejamos anotado que había alérgico a los frutos secos y lo primero que nos sirven es un aperitivo con frutos secos a los dos sin avisar de lo cual nos quejamos al encargado, el cual su contestación fue enseñarme su pda y decirme que hay no viene nada que él no tiene la culpa. Ya me dieron ganas de irme pero hice un esfuerzo por quedarme, total que vamos a pedir y de los 4 que quería no había 2. Con el restaurante vacío tardaron exactamente unos 40 min en traer 6 ostras y una ensalada (Adjunto foto de la ensalada porque es de risa). No tranquilos con nuestra mesa, la mesa que teníamos justo al lado, y que parecía que estábamos comiendo con ellos, se queja del steak tartar que está seco que le falta el huevo y de nuevo el encargado haciendo de las suyas, en vez de retirar el plato y traer otro. Primero dice que el tartar no lleva huevo y seguidamente recula y dice que ya lo lleva… no contento con eso, le pide a la señora que le deje un poquito para comprobar él que realmente está malo (totalmente ridículo). Terminando la mitad del plato, le traen otro que efectivamente si iba con huevo y estaba bueno. A lo que no le piden ni disculpas y se lo cobraron (solo le invitaron a los cafés).

En fin, espero que mejoréis mucho, ya que no tiene nada que ver con la máquina de Chamberí, ni la de...
