The waiter that took my order didn’t treat me right when I told him that I didn’t wanted anything to drink WITh my Mafren dish and in a mean tone he told me “you cannot go to a restaurant and not order a drink and bring your own drink”. I wasn’t drinking my water , he didn’t give me the chance to tell him I wanted coffee at the end with cake .NOT NICE at all! I want bringing my own drink, I had my bottle water with me since I am a tourist , and is hot . I wasn’t going to drink it because I don’t combine water with food . Plus my water was for my way to the museum. This guy could be nicer even if I want to drink my own water instead of their tap water. Or he can politely tell me order water from the restaurant. I had been before in this restaurant quite a while with my kids and husband , since I am in Spain for 2 months. It really feels like not coming back with this kind of treatment, food is ok, small amounts but tasty. Sorry for the owner because people will not come back if treated wrong , there is so many options in Madrid . The waiter never came back to ask us if we need anything else , like...

This place conquered my hart from the very first moment I sat down: the waitress(after carefully cleaning the table with a disinfectant that actually smelled nice) gave us a jug of tap water and glasses.

I love this so much: the tap water in this city is excellent and many times I want to simply drink that with my food, no need to buy mineral water in Madrid.

From a coffee shop that roasts their own coffee, I have very high expectations. I’m happy to report that this place met my expectations perfectly: the flat white I ordered was strong on coffe, with a lovely crème, with just the right amount of milk to compliment the coffee.

We asked the waitress for a suggestion of dessert. She recommended the cheesecake, which might as well be the best cheesecake I’ve ever eaten: not too sweet and with a strong (but not overwhelming) taste of cheese.

I saved this place to my favorites, and I’ll look forward to come back to try their brunch and...

Unfortunately we did not have a great experience here. Firstly, the coffee was not nice at all, very weak! We still had not received our food 40 minutes after we ordered it, and noticed that tables around us (who arrived much later than us) had already received their food. In one case, another table had ordered the exact same dishes much later than us, and received it a lot earlier than us. When we asked our waiter if our food would be much longer, as we had been waiting 40 minutes at this point, he said that the kitchen was busy but said he could see our food and it was ready. We didn’t receive the food until 10 minutes later, and it was clear that they had just forgotten about it. We would have preferred that they had admitted they had forgotten and taken accountability. When the food arrived, my food was ice cold. And when the bill arrived, the waiter said there was nothing he could do for us. Overall,...

Another good brunch place. The interior looks nice, with bare brick walls and wooden columns. There's room for maybe 15—20 people. It gets busy on the weekends, and they don't accept reservations on Sundays, so you may have to wait a bit before a table becomes available. The food is good, albeit not spectacular. While the roasted-tomato toast was delicious, the pitaya bowl tasted somewhat thin. They also roast their own coffee, which is sold under the brand name "La Llama". But they serve only one type of espresso, which was an unremarkable dark roast when I was there. That's a bit disappointing for a "specialty coffee" place. Overall, though, Mafrens is a solid spot for breakfast or a light lunch.

Amazing locally roasted single-origin coffee brewed at the perfect temperature (you can drink it as soon as it’s served, it’s not burned, it’s not bitter!). The service is friendly and the food delicious too. We had a salmon and avocado toast and added a poached egg and it was delicious. We topped off the brunch with home-made cheesecake with no frills just delicious goat cheese (it’s worth a try, it’s not overpowering), and another coffee this time without oat milk to really enjoy the taste of the coffee. Thanks M(y)Fr(i)en(d)s.

We arrived in Madrid starving and this place showed up as the closest place to eat so we went. It was so good. I had a salad where you choose ingredients from a list of options. The first time I tried avocado, couscous, chicken and balsamic. It was yummy. We also had an appetizer of mascarpone toast with honey and walnuts. We went back for that! Then I had the roasted sweet potatoes, avocado chicken and balsamic. It was just as good as the other. I definitely recommend this small healthy place. https://www.mafrens.com/carta
