I will begin by saying the bar prepares exquisite cocktails and beverages, including non-alcohol ones. Unfortunately, bad service can marr an experience though. An employeed named Desiree, was very rude to me, her lack of courtesy and training made me just get up and leave one day. I was craving a nonalcohol beverage, I had the day before. There was no greeter, so I went in further, noticed there were tables being set up for dining, but another area was not, I sat at a table next to a couple also sitting with only drinks. Desiree, came over with bad attitude and said I couldn't sit there, so I said, oh, I thought since it is not made it would be ok. And she angrily responded, I just cleaned it and was getting ready to set it up and turned her back on me and moved on to prep another table in the original area of tables that were being set-up. At which point, I said, so tell me where I should sit and she just ignored me, so I said or should I just leave? she ignored me. Even a co-worker of hers, went to her asking her what was the matter. At that point I just got up and told her, that was no way in which to treat a customer, much less one staying at the hotel. There wasn't even an attempt to accommodate or to deescalate. I have worked in customer service, and her attitude is not acceptable, specially for the type of establishment in the middle of a tourist center. A Michelline guide recommended restaurant. I don't hope for her to fired, but I do wish for retraining and for the manager to pay attention for additional complaints. Later that day her boss was there and she was attentive and courteous. The next morning though, my husband got ahead of me for breakfast, when I got there, I told her, my husband is already here and checked in (I wasn'tas courteous as I would normally be), she responded with attitude, I still need the room number, so I gave it to her, and again tried to tell her my husband had already checked as he was already ordering for the 2 of us (I even pointed at him, as the breakfast area is very small), she kept asking for the room number, I gave it to her a total of 3 times and she kept arguing, so at that point I said I have given it to you 3 times already. At which point she did deescalte and forced herself to apologize a bit. Because we were staying another day, I decided not to ruin our experience and waited for the review. We stayed at the hotel for three nights, at the end of our Europe trip. The Ocean Drive hotel is in a great location, the hotel staff is courteous and helpful, rooms were clean, and confortable, nice breakfast buffet, I would definitely...
Read moreWalked in for dinner on a Sunday eve, 8:30pm-ish. The ambiance was wonderful. Peaceful, beautiful, effortlessly chic. The service was very professional and fast. Our server was great. But the food... 😔 wow, it was terribly unfortunate. I'm surprised (given the number of positive reviews), but also not surprised (lots of reservations open during prime dinner slots on a weekend).
The pan con tomate barely had enough (any!!) tomato to cover the 1-inch thick strip of toast. Any local Spaniard would be flabbergasted. The huevas (salted fish roe) plate was super meager. All of the appetizers felt very stingy, like they were trying to offer us the bare minimum. The confit artichoke was simulateously prickly and mushy. There were still the artichoke heart hairs, which were inedible. Would not recommend that. The fried anchovies were so-so. Crispy, but not flavorful. The dipping sauce was pretty good and necessary. Finally, the arroz (Señorito) wasn't executed well, despite the nice appearance. Most grains weren't fully cooked through, giving it an unpleasant texture. I should've known better than to order rice, but given the photos shared in other reviews looked fine, I decided to take a gamble. That did not pay off. Decidedly not worth the €200 spent—I guess the premium charge is for the space, not quality of ingredients.
But to end on a positive note, I enjoyed my non-alcoholic cocktail. I might return for a drink, but definitely not for food. What a pity for such a...
Read moreI visited Mar Mía Madrid expecting a high-level dining experience, especially as it’s listed as a Michelin recommendation — but I left extremely disappointed.
They charged me 14€ for a simple portion of French fries, which were not on the menu, not homemade, and served without any explanation or justification. A total trap for tourists.
I only ordered that plus a non-alcoholic cocktail, which, while good, was also 14€ for a very small portion — again, clearly overpriced.
What shocked me most was the atmosphere: the staff started cleaning all around me during my dinner, as if they were closing — while I was still seated and eating. The music was loud, making the experience even more unpleasant.
They may look like a “jet-set” place from the outside, but the reality does not match. I told the staff before leaving that I would post this review, but the man I spoke to seemed completely indifferent.
I am writing this comment not to be unfair, but to warn other guests so they don’t leave as disappointed as I did. I regularly dine at Michelin-recommended restaurants and truly appreciate fine cuisine and service — but this one is well below the standard and was a big disappointment.
I do not recommend this...
