O'Grove — Restaurant in Madrid

The restaurant is a small room with a capacity of +/- 25 situated behind the bar that is the front of the premises.

I arrived at 8.15 for an 8.30 reservation. The Spanish group who entered the bar were instructed they must wait until 8.30 to enter the restaurant. I was then told the same. We all ended up just standing on the street.

At approx. 8.25 we were invited in.

The restaurant is very clean, very intimate (you are close to all the other tables) and I think, the hosting/server is done by the same person that serves at the bar. This can lead to the person being very busy between everyone that needs their attention.

I received a lovely small plate of fried whole sardines whilst I looked at the menu.

I'd already decided I wanted the grilled seafood appetizer that is intended for 2, but I would eat it as an entree for one. It contained 3 or 4 types of shrimp/prawns, a pile of cockles, some razor clams and some langoustines. EVERYTHING was simply and perfectly grilled(Plancha).

A nice glass of wine was provided, the basket of bread was not perfectly fresh (some stale pieces) and my interaction with the host was minimal; seated, order, served, provided check.

If you want some very good fish/seafood this is a great place. The prices for the quality received are...

Very racist restaurant, terrible and dehumanising service. Please don't go here if you're not a local/not white. Sheltered and ignorant staff need to educate themselves about the world and other people. They were literally running past us, ignoring us and being super blunt (whilst treating the other locals/white diners politely). They also tried to overcharge us by adding a random two person €30+ dish we never had to the bill - when we called them out they immediately played dumb and rambled - clearly did it on purpose lmao? We decided to go here due to a recommendation on social media regarding the octopus. Unfortunately this was the most disappointing octopus we had in Madrid. The amount of salt crystals that were on it made it uneatable making it feel it had sand and making it hard to taste anything other than salt. To add to this the server was not having a good day and seemed to take this out on us. We ordered fried calamari and when it arrived we realized after taking a bite that this didn't seem fried and when asked if this was fried and were told it wasn't we were accused of us having ordered it not fried which we know wasn't the case. This unfortunate and almost aggressive interaction with the server made us order the check to which we were dismissed and treated as infractors until we left. We were not charged for the calamari. On the positive side the croquetas and oysters we had were really good. We will not be coming back and think there are many other good options for good galician...
