Ok,when we got there, my friend and I were so happy to see the place, we thought looked nice and interesting and good ambience. So we decided to sit and ordered the eggs benedict with advocado. It was delish! When we were eating our friend decided to join us and have breakfast there as well, so he came right after we finished eating. When he arrived, we joined 2 two seats tables together so all of us can sit together. Than came one of the waiter (we call her the tall girl), and told us (in spanish), that we are not supposed to join the table, and they need to take one of the table, or my friend has to order something to eat. And he was actually was holding the menu and about to order something. I was like, that was rude? Wasn't she supposed to ask first, if my friend is gonna order? Or maybe say, "Are you ready to order?" I mean before she told us she was gonna take one of the table? Than we said, "No! We're gonna order." So we ordered. After about 30 minutes of waiting for the food, somebody came again (the smaller girl), and told us the same thing (this time in english), telling us the same thing. Than we were like, but than where our friend gonna sit if she takes the table and the chair? And than she said ok that's fine. And about 2 minutes after that, came another waiter (the man with the beard), told us the same thing. But he was more pushy, like he didn't care, but he needed the table now. I mean, if there is a line, and we already ordered the food, weren't they supposed to let us finish our meal first, and let them wait? But NO, they were like... No, the 3 of you have to share that tiny table (I mean really tiny!), so we can let more customers come in. Or maybe, if they want to keep the customer flow fast, they want to get the food out faster!! I mean, we don't mind to leave whenever we finish eating. So in the end, we cancel the last order, and my friend had breakfast somewhere else (in a more friendly place about 5 minutes...
Read morePum Pum cafe is not "one more coffee shop" in trendy Madrid. There is obviously a sense of the new trend in Madrid which is all about coffee and baristas and local roasted beans etc etc etc. But there is much much more about it. We have been advise on arriving early as Sunday morning could get busy rather quickly. In we went just 5 minutes pass the opening hour: 10am. We managed to score a pretty good table. And very quickly the place was heaving. But by that time our coffee was on his way to our table. Fresh orange juice for the kids and plenty of caffeine for the three of us. The quality of the coffee is very high and really well done too. We had two rounds of coffees and they were all really well executed. But then the food arrived. Quality sourdough bread, best tomatoes were used, lush hollandaise sauce on the well poached eggs, the most delicious smoked butter (SMOKED BUTTER?, really?), a chunky piece of brioche topped with greek yoghurt and plenty of jam that my son devoured in no time and much much more. We went a la carte but there is some incredible options for brunch with plenty of food for €15 or so. The mood was one of those vibes from Spotify playlist: feel-really-laid-back-chill-out-Sunday. But with much better tunes. The highlight of the late breakfast was my daughter asking for a second round of the tomato on toast. And she was right as this is not only our kind of breakfast but Pum Pum cafe does a particularly good one. It wasn't another Pan con tomato. It was THE pan con tomato. If after having coffee and their delicious food you are not convinced. Well then just have a piece of their strudel or the lemon cake. And I'm sure by then you will agree with me that this is definitely not "one more coffee shop". Go and visit. You will not be disappointed for the quality their...
Read morePum pum used to be one of my favorites but their ever-growing popularity takes away from this cafe all of its je ne sais quois. Where you used to be able to pop in for a coffee and cake while checking some emails, the environment is now too crowded to sit back and relax/work. The last two times I went on weekends the wait was 30min or more for a table. The food and drinks are still high quality, but the service and atmosphere of the place have suffered greatly. During my visit today (as a party of three), we waited over an hour for a table and were sat at a table for two. When they moved us to a “more comfortable” table it was still a table for two, until finally they moved us to a proper table for three. Two entrees came without issue, but the third was delivered to another table that ordered the same dish, leaving my friend waiting over 20min with no food. I was disappointed that the “vegan options” on many items were simply the removal of the egg without changing the price or providing a substitute protein— and they used to have a delicious vegan protein on the menu! The sandwich I got was all bread and no filling (admittedly the bread was great as they bake it daily in house, but I would have preferred to fill up on the veggies inside).
If you are dying to try this place because of the hype, go on a weekday or off time as it is no longer worth the wait and know that it’s mainly for the instagram shot. I think this place is suffering from its own popularity. There is another location a few blocks away that I would like to try to see if it is...
