Shocking Experience - Avoid this Indian Restaurant in Madrid at All Costs!
I had the most appalling experience at this Indian restaurant in Madrid. The service was abysmal, the server had a terrible attitude, and the food was subpar at best. The kebabs were half-cooked and barely edible.
To make matters worse, when a bottle was brought to our table, we discovered a dead cockroach stuck to the bottom of it! Disgusted, we called the server over, who nonchalantly responded, "Oh, okay, I will change it," without any hint of surprise or concern.
When we requested to cancel the rest of our order and only pay for what we had consumed so far, the server insisted on checking with the manager because "they had already started cooking." Unbelievably, when the bill arrived, we were charged for the drink with the cockroach in it!
The lack of hygiene, terrible service, and complete disregard for customer satisfaction displayed by the staff make this restaurant a place to avoid at all costs. Steer clear unless you want to risk encountering uncooked food, unsanitary conditions, and a total lack of professionalism.
Updated on June 21, following the restaurant reply:
First, thank you for trying to clarify that we should expect to eat bugs with our food if we set in the Terrace area. What a lame excuse! The bottle came out of the fridge, and the bug was stuck to its bottom. This is an indication of the sanitary condition of your fridge.
Second, the waiter didn't replace the bottle, as you said. This is not correct! His initial reaction is that he will clean the bottle. We refused, and we requested the check to pay for what we have consumed. He said he would check with his manager, and then he brought the check charging us for the dirty bottle. He also topped that with the most disrespectful and careless attitude when we asked why we were charged for this bottle.
Please don't try to make excuses for what have happened. It would been better to just apologise for the incident. As we may face this in other restaurants around the world, the way the incident was handled was one of the worst...
Read moreWe went to Udaipur for my birthday. I will offer feedback on the decor, the service and the food.
Decor - wow. So beautiful. These places can sometimes feel dusty, but I didn’t feel that way here. It was really gorgeous. The only thing I would say is that our table for four felt very small and like we could barely fit all the food, naan, drinks. My daughters had to squeeze into the booth like seat. I kind of found it uncomfortable and was a little disappointed to see lots of tables open that would have been more ample and comfortable. My kids aren’t small - they are full size adults now.
Service - service was great. Our waiter spoke spanish, English, Hindi and Bengali! He did a great job of ensuring we had what we needed and went over the cocktail menu making good suggestions.
Food - sadly, this is where it falls apart. Three of us had lamb dishes and the lamb was tough!! I have literally never had tough lamb in an Indian restaurant. Lamb is supposed to cook long and slow and be so tender. My daughter had Lamb Tikka Masala which I make at home all the time. It was very oddly sweet.
They are clearly getting too cute with the food and forgetting the fundamentals. The basmati rice had color fleks in it which made it beautiful, but it was dried out and had rather large chunks of dry rice. I know fresh rice, and it was like this rice had been sitting under a warming lamp way too long. Also, the tandori chicken for my daughter was very dry. Also seemed like it has been cooked too far ahead of time and left sitting. While I love organic edible flowers on my dishes for the sheer beauty of it, this cannot make up for poor execution with the underlying food.
Our meal was not cheap €168 for four of us. Would love to go back, but they need to go back to basics with the food. Also maybe a personal issue, but I love it when Naan looks like it has been made in an actual tandoor - not cut into little...
Read moreI was hoping this place would be a hit but unfortunately it was quite underwhelming. First of all we got there soon as they opened for dinner and was was asked if we had a reservation which luckily we did, I don't understand why they wouldn't be able to accommodate us on a week night but regardless they sat us. I just wasn't happy with the service as they seemed a little reluctant to tend to us (perhaps we may have been underdressed but I digress) the inside is so beautiful, very immaculate - definitely a trendy date night spot and totally instagrammable. The problem was that many of the menu items were just underwhelming. We each ordered different alcoholic drinks and each one was so beautiful and they tasted just fine but for 15 euros I would have expected a little more, same goes for the food unfortunately. I don't understand how a place can justify charging over 7 euros for a couple measly scoops of plain rice, and while I understand that this restaurant is trying to cater to a fancier vibe this just felt very disingenuous. The food was good enough but again totally overpriced. I ordered lamb Rogan Josh with some naan and my friends had something different aside from the drinks and the meal we had nothing else, for three people the bill totaled €150 which is ridiculous for Madrid, but lesson learned we should have done better research. I just wish we would have been welcomed more politely. To top it all off upon leaving I saw a cockroach by our table and I informed the wait staff because I know many people would be grossed out by that. Anyway if you want good quality authentic Indian food I'm sure they're better places to try in Madrid but if you just want to have drinks and take in the beautiful vibe then this place is worth checking out, just make sure you have a fat...
