Not all four star hotels are created equal! We had the joy and the pleasure of staying at the NH Collection Madrid Abascal. I cannot say enough nice things about the location, the service, the kindness and friendliness of the staff. They all went above and beyond in pleasing and accommodating our requests. We really wanted to have dinner at Botin’s Restaurant which, according to the Guinness Book of records is the oldest continuous working restaurant. Unfortunately, when Lorena and Andrea, at the front desk called, we were informed that reservations are required three months in advance. My granddaughter and I were disappointed but understood! On our way up to our room I asked if they would be so kind to call and see if they had any availability for the next four days that we were in Madrid and that we would take whatever was available. Shortly after we were accompanied to our room, by Lorena, Andrea personally came up stairs to inform us that we had reservations the following evening for the eight pm seating. I have no idea how she pulled this off, but my granddaughter and I will always be grateful. Therefore a very big shout out to Lorena and Andrea for coming through for us. The staff in the breakfast area and restaurant are equally accommodating and cheerful. I wish to sincerely thank everyone at this hotel for making our stay a memorable one! This experience was repeated during our brief stay in their sister hotel NH Collection Amistad Cordoba. I wish we could have stayed longer. The accommodations and location were amazing! A big thanks to all but in particular Lorena and Andrea.

Read moreNH Collection Abascal was a solid hotel. The staff was helpful, the bar a nice place to grab drinks with friends late at night, and the interior attractive. Our room was cute and spacious enough, and there was enough storage space, if not any extra.
The best part of this hotel was the bathroom. Seriously. I have never had such a nice bathroom with such a luxurious shower. The water pressure was amazing, and it made the rain shower head a real treat.
The hotel breakfast is amazing and worth every penny. Spain runs on a different schedule than the US, so we found that a big buffet breakfast was a great choice for us. We were often busy during the later lunch time, so this let us get by with just a quick, small bocadillo for lunch. The breakfast is very high quality, with a great selection including Spanish jamon, cheeses, quince jelly, omelettes cooked to order, delicious yogurt with a variety of toppings, and pastries galore. My description cannot do this breakfast buffet justice - it is worth the price 100%.
On the down side, this hotel is not near anything of note. Spain is a wonderful place for walking, but you really need a cab/Uber to get anywhere from this hotel. The subway may be a decent choice - we did not use it in Madrid because Ubers are so easy to call.
If I were staying here for business, this hotel would be a solid choice. For a vacation, I would prefer a different location in the city closer...
