Utøpico - Specialty Coffee — Restaurant in Madrid

The coffee was actually pretty good, but I was sitting on the bench outside with my friend, after buying the coffee, and the gentleman told us about 15 minutes later, “necesito el banco” because he needed to put it inside.

This was fine, but it was a rude way of saying so, as he was basically kicking us out. So me and my boyfriend went inside to speak to him & he said my boyfriend was yelling & aggressive.

I tried speaking to the gentleman’s mother calmly in Arabic to which then she yelled at me, telling us that this is a very popular coffee shop and our time was up and she has many many orders coming in. Keeping this in mind there were only about 4 people inside the coffee shop.

I simply wanted an apology since I drove 40 mins to come to the establishment & I was honestly offended when they kicked us off the bench.

I was speaking quite calmly to the gentleman’s mother, but I was so shocked at the yelling in Arabic & slapping her hands together at me. Saying that “welcome here but leave now leave”. This was … surprising.

We wanted hojas de reclamación to which they didn’t give us any, which is against the law. The gentleman did say to give him 5 mins and he will speak to us but then once the mother yelled he told us to leave.

She said I wasn’t giving her a chance to speak even though I barely got 3 sentences out, which took me aback.

Very inexcusable to yell at a customer as if they’re your children … no matter what the situation … if she didn’t yell then we would’ve also apologized for getting upset and everything would have been fine. It doesn’t matter what happened, you just can’t yell and start slapping your hands together that way.

This was the experience. Uncomfortable for everyone involved, including us customers.

Coffee was good though, the tahini one, I would have probably come back to order another one if I wasn’t yelled at.

What makes Utopico truly exceptional, though, is the owner's dedication to quality and customer service. He's always willing to share his knowledge and recommendations, making you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just a customer. It's this personal touch that keeps me coming back.

I've also had the chance to try some of their delectable pastries, which pair perfectly with their coffee. The cinnamon rolls are buttery and flaky, and the homemade cakes are a delight for the sweet tooth.

In a city filled with coffee options, Utopico is a standout. It's the kind of place where you can take a moment for yourself, relax, and enjoy a cup of coffee that's made with love and care. I can't recommend this charming coffee shop enough. If you're in Madrid and you love great coffee and excellent service, make sure to pay them a visit.
