We had high expectations, since the restaurant was highly rated on Google. Now, my feedback comes after a good nights sleep, following a tasting dinner - which it was, really.
Starting from the end... After we have finished eating, paid and left the restaurant the owner came after us and complained that we had left him a one-star review on Google, which we had not. He gave us a speech explaining why prices were not high, but reasonable. We did not appreciate this ending to our visit! It was annoying, and unfair, since we had not rated. The food tasted good, well above average if you like fish, which we all do. The menu is very limited, but it is acceptable for a small kitchen, I suppose. "Fresh fish - Catch of the day" is the major main course, and prices are upon request. Prices are INSANE, seen from our perspective. We do understand the principle of market prices (offer&demand), that wild-caught cost more than produced and we also understand that employees should have a decent wage and owners a decent dividend. All these points were explained to us, after we understood that our main course would cost us close to €100 per person (not including appetizers), without the owner offering to tell us the price, and we dared to question the price-level of his fresh fish counter. My impression is that they do this on purpose, to earn more. We got the feeling that we were about to be ripped off!
Now, my overall feeling, is that the food was indeed good. Not memorable, but good. Would I recommend? No! There are many good places to choose from in Mogan, also for...
Read moreAfter 10 days in Canaria, we are Happy to say that this restaurant is by far the best we had not only by food, freshness and taste but also the humanity and friendlyness in the waiters way to handle all your needs and enquiries.
No typical advertising in front of the restaurant, no "come look menu". You are free to check if you want.
The food: as an Italian with a love for pasta, here was one of the tastiest perfectly al dente cooked octopusink spaghetti i have ever had.
The plates are heated and served hot so the food doesn't loose heat at all.
The variation, presentation an taste is just not comparable with the rest of touristfilled fast food places.
They have a menu and a fresh fish of the day which we tried. Prices for this food is more than fair and there was literally nothing we could find to complain.
The place seat less people, around 20ish that can be served with highest quality and get taken cared of instead of having 300 customers where the just try to feed you fast and get your money.
The owners intention of making his customer happy is recognizable from the first second to the last.
Not only this, but if the restaurant is full, he is happy to suggest you other good places and also gave us a top suggestion for an ice-cream place to avoid the tourist traps.
I recommend to book beforehand as the restaurant gets fully seated or reserved.
Thank you for this amazing experience, happy...
Read moreSorry but we found it to be overpriced for what was offered.
Initially we thought we’d try the lobster, but were told it would cost €260!!! Upon seeing our concern, the waiter then began to haggle, asking if €240 was acceptable before offering it for €220… We were then offered a mix of fish and prawns etc for €160… we said we’d think about it and sat down to check the menu.
After ordering from the menu instead of paying for the lobster or fish, the waiters demeanour visibly shifted from friendly and warm to abrupt and cold. So much so we considered leaving, but didn’t want to be as rude as he was, so stayed for our meal.
To start we had scallops and garlic bread. Both were delicious but they only gave us four tiny scallops (please see photo below) and it cost around €26. Garlic bread was lovely and much better priced in comparison at around €7 for 2 pieces.
For main, I had beef with veg and my girlfriend had squid ink pasta with prawns which were raw. I understand this is a way of eating prawns, but neither of us were able to eat them and the pasta had an odd flavour. My beef was nice and cooked as requested, but again for the price (€34 I believe) the portion and veg accompaniment didn’t seem generous at all. The brocolli was also rock hard. The restaurant itself it also tiny and tables are all cramped together so tightly that the gentleman next to me was almost sitting on my...
