Came to puerto de Mogan for a romantic steak dinner and wish we hadn’t. Ordered the padron peppers and garlic bread to start. Garlic bread was a bright artificial looking green, never seen garlic bread like it. Ordered the chateaubriand for two. The first indication this wasn’t going to be good was it was spelt wrong on the menu. The staff set up a table with a grill, plates and a chopping board which sat covered in flies for 20 minutes. No idea why the grill was sat for 20 minutes as they did not preheat it before they put the steak on it. A waiter brought out our ‘chateaubriand’ which looked nothing like one. The waiter began to cook the steak on a barely heated grill. We asked for it medium and it was well done. The waiter had no clue what so ever how to cook a steak. If steak is going to be cooked at your table this should be done by a chef not an incompetent waiter who knows nothing about cooking a steak. The waiter plated the steak and it was the most disgusting dry pathetic bit of steak I’ve seen in my life. Tasted disgusting. After one bite we sent it back and asked for the bill. We were given the bill by a waitress who drew us the dirtiest look. We quickly left and will never return. Avoid...
Read moreCare Diem was our first restaurant in Mogan. We were walking on a pier reading menus. CD spotted my attention. I am not a big fan of unhealthy food (potatoes, fried dishes, lots of dairy and unhealthy butters and weird sauces), then I stopped next to Carpe Diem. I can tell you for sure stuff is just the best! Great service, happy people, singing, joking, explaining all in details. It gave us a great atmosphere to digest food. Also they helped us to chose dishes widely in order to not to overpay. A big plus - attentive. Food: There is always a choice of wildly caught fish (they get their fish from fishermen next corner as well as from other countries and its alive) - not farmed such as seabass etc. Mussels and fish were cooked in its own sauce, herbs, tomatoes, excellent taste. Ali Oli - so soft and tender, home made I think, a great quality. You should try it there. They of course added to a dish lots of potatoes and not many veggies, (fish with potatoes basically) but its just a Spanish thing - to eat potatoes in any kind or form. I guess that might be fixed if you just talk to them. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Romantic cozy tasty friendly - I would go...
Read moreWhat a fantastic restaurant this is. If you want fine dining at a moderate cost then this is the place to be. It’s situated on the beautiful harbour-side amongst other restaurants but don’t be tempted to pass it by or you will miss a real treat. The chef quite clearly loves what he does. He would not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant. The food is simply magnificent. The menu is simple but the dishes served are a work of art and taste as good as they look. From the tuna tataki - quite possibly the best I have tasted, the stunning grilled squid , the Iberian surprise...... I could go on. ( check out our photos) A special mention should go to Max and his staff whose generosity , friendliness and kindness in such difficult times , went beyond anything we could have expected. We never normally visit a restaurant more than twice in a 2 week holiday. However on our 11 day holiday we visited 6 times. On our last night a table was waiting for us with a bottle of champagne on ice as a gift from...
