Bàrbar — Restaurant in Palma

The two of us went to Barbar with high expectations given its rating and recommendations I’d had but we were a bit underwhelmed unfortunately. First we went for prawn carpaccio which was ok but more like a prawn cocktail. Next up was flamed aubergine with ricotta and almonds which reminded me of baby food i.e.super-bland with no bite or flavour at all except for the almonds. On to the mains with duck magret which was spoiled by luke warm by the time we got to it as it was brought before we had finished the aubergine. We seemed to have saved the best til last though with the underloin, which was beautifully cooked and tasted delicious. Service was a mixed bag with the waiter being friendly and helpful but our waitress rather threw the food onto the table with barely a word and no smile or eye contact. The food was absolutely divine, and the service was even more outstanding! We came to celebrate a birthday, and every member of the team was warm, attentive, and professional.

A special thank you to Ivana, who beautifully arranged and presented the cake, and to Valentina, who kindly captured the special moment for us.

We truly enjoyed our evening and highly recommend trying the tomato bread, tuna with strawberries, red prawn carpaccio, and red mullet. The seafood was prepared to perfection, and everyone had a wonderful time. While a service charge wasn’t required, we happily added one as it was more than deserved.

An unforgettable culinary experience! The dishes were presented more creatively than we’ve ever seen – served on stone plates with incredible attention to detail. We also loved the placement of our table, which gave us fascinating insights into the kitchen and the chefs at work.

Unfortunately, the only downside was the waitress, who repeatedly coughed while serving, including when preparing and bringing our coffee. This was quite off-putting, especially in an otherwise exceptional setting.
