Authentic flavors, cozy vibe – but not worth a long wait Casa Julio is a charming, rustic little spot tucked into the streets of Palma – and the food is genuinely good! We waited about 5 minutes to get a table, which was absolutely fine. But if you see a long line outside, I’d honestly suggest trying again another time. Why? Because although the food is tasty, it’s not so extraordinary that it justifies a 15+ minute wait. Also, we noticed the staff letting certain people skip ahead in line, which left a bit of a bitter taste before we even sat down.
That being said, once inside, the experience was much better. Here’s what we ordered: • Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp): Beautifully cooked, juicy and sizzling in a hot clay dish with loads of garlic and olive oil – perfect for dipping the bread in. Probably our favorite dish of the evening! • Patatas con alioli: Golden, crispy potatoes served with a generous amount of garlicky alioli. Rich, creamy, and just the right amount of salt. Comfort food at its best. • Pimientos de padrón: A classic – blistered green peppers with sea salt. Nicely charred and very satisfying. • Calamares a la romana: Lightly fried squid rings. Crunchy outside, soft inside, with no unpleasant chewiness. Great with a squeeze of lemon. • Albóndigas en salsa (meatballs in sauce): Tender, flavorful meatballs served in a rich, mildly spiced tomato-based sauce. Hearty and delicious. • Cerveza San Miguel: A cold local beer that paired perfectly with the tapas.
The interior of the restaurant has a cozy, no-frills feel, with traditional tiles and wooden beams. It’s not fancy, but it’s authentic – and that adds to the charm.
Final verdict: Great food, fair prices, and a real local vibe. Just keep in mind: if there’s a queue, it might not be worth the wait. But if you can get in quickly like we did, you’ll likely leave happy and full – just...
Read moreDisappointing after getting a recommendation from my tour guide to go here. There were many empty tables yet the servers still seemed so rushed for everything, they just grabbed away unused tableware from my table and almost smashed down my glass of wine. I certainly didn't feel a nice atmosphere or restaurant vibe, more something to "get some food". I chose the Dorada menu, and luckily, the fish was fine, nothing tasty in terms of light spice or sauce, but fine. The fries were totally soft and soggy, worse than you would get at the famous fast food spots. Salad is just lettuce, carrots and onion, seems like there's less inspiration than at an average Dutch kebab place. I never complain in restaurants but did tell the server the fries were really not good, but she said it was "original" and when I said it's just not good, she dismissed it and walked away. No further mention or apology. The price seems low, but I would definitely rather have spent 26 instead of 16 euro and had a tasty meal with a bit better service (and a smile and thank...
Read moreI was here at Casa Julio restaurant/bar in old town Palma for a quick drink and snack. I was initially given the one person table right next to the door as I was alone, which makes sense. So there was no way any other group which was waiting could be accomodated on this table.
To be very clear!! I was here just 4 days ago and everything(i was served by couple of nice women at the bar)was fine. But today!!!! was denied service by a male server because I only ordered one beer and one small tapas. He said it's busy and that I can sit there only if I order more food. Being by myself, I wouldn't order more food and waste it if I'm not sure about it. I was very very disappointed by this behavior of the man. Maybe to make money he is ok with me ordering more food and wasting it. As we all know that ppl are starving and dying in multiple parts of the world, ppl in restaurants like this should be aware and mindful of wasting food. I don't think I would want to eat in a restaurant where servers...
