It's difficult to give more than3* on balance, because the experience was mixed.
The good things were the friendly service, and the Peking Duck which was very good, and the location which is quite beautiful. And after the meal, they gave us a free ice cream, which was unexpected and nice.
And so the disappointing things: For a Chinese restaurant, the menu is pretty small; so it's disappointing when things you try to order are not available. And that happened for the first drink and dish we tried to order.
Finally, we ordered four dishes: Starter: Meat balls. (They weren't really meat balls at all: they were like mini-baozi: a kind of pork bun with a small meat filling. I guess they were frozen and microwaved... they were rather chewy, and athough they were served in a steamer bowl with a lettuce base, the lettuce was kind of crispy which I can't imagine it being if the dumplings had been steamed on top of it.) Main: Crispy chicken with sweet+sour sauce. (I have seen this style of chicken before, although never served as a chicken sweet+sour. It's like they take shreds of the commercial shredded chicken used on sandwiches in the Canary Islands, toss it in seasoned corn starch and fry it. The taste isn't unpleasant as such, but any chicken is almost unidentifiable. I guess in a large portion there wouldn't be much more than 20g of chicken. But while it was what it was, I was incredulous about the amount of sweet+sour sauce... There was a tiny bit visible... not so much as you'd use salad dressing on a salad. I asked for more and was given more... amost a full tablespoon more, I guess. Main: Peking Duck. That was really good... big portion of duck. Not really Peking Duck as we understand it in China, but I wasn't expecting it to be. In its own terms it was good. There were 10 pancakes, which was generous. It was also served with almost a tablespoon of sauce, but I was offered more when it was depleted. It's just... such an odd thing to ration sauce so stringently. Side: Egg fried rice. It was good. Nice rice, nicely cooked; good portion size.
I also ordered a Chinese tea. It was served in the smallest teapot I've ever seen, but it was refilled after tea tea was depleted. Nice tea.
After the meal, we were brought Mercadona mini white-chocolate covered ice creams, which I thought was kind; and they...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant at least three times whilst in Puerto De la Cruz. It's a bit of a trek if you are coming up from Playa Martiànez, because you have to go up the stairs from hell at the Goats Path or you could just grab a taxi up We were lucky we were staying in La Paz overlooking Playa Martiánez and our walk was all down hill and only 5 stairs instead of the usual 225 you have coming up to this area of La Paz. The restaurant is located half way up the Agatha Christie Bookcase steps. You will know them as soon as you see them. All of the books she has written are there. On their sides in the form of a bookcase/shelves. It's a stunning sight. A real must see. Most people on holiday don't even know they are there. Please go see them. Anyway, we found the Jade Verde a really pleasant dining experience. Myself and my husband thoroughly enjoyed our meal of crispy chicken and sweet and sour sauce with noodles for me and chips for hubby. The food was amazing. The chicken exactly as it should be and the sweet and sour sauce was utterly amazing. The family who own this restaurant also work in it as well. They are really nice and friendly. They welcome you into their restaurant as if you are members of their family. Lovely. Our table was in the garden part of the restaurant with open views to Mount Teide. Stunning. I would pay to sit there and look at that sight without eating anything. It gets even better when the dusk creeps in and all the little lights from the houses start to glow! Our bill came and we were amazed by the cost of all the food we had eaten. It came to €41 which we paid for with our Revolut card. It is accepted widely throughout the Canaries, anywhere you see the Visa sign. Currency conversion= = £36. Not bad considering the size of the portions you get for your money. They are huge! Be warned, don't eat anything before you go! The restaurant has spectacular views, it's well worth the visit plus the wonderful food. There is disabled access to the restaurant via a ramp for wheelchair users and ambulant disabled also. I can't speak for the disabled access to the toilet facilities as I didn't use them when we visited. My husband did though and he had to go down a flight of stairs. We loved the Jade Verde restaurant and heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty bite in Puerto de la...
Read moreAMAZING My partner and I chose to visit for lunch as it is directly behind our hotel and is at the top of the Agatha Christie stairs (also really was craving Chinese food). We were welcomed by the sweetest lady the host whose name I unfortunately didn’t get and we were allowed to pick our seating as we were the first customers in as they had just opened. There was a spectacular view and we opted for Spring rolls to start which were huge and seasoned beautifully. My partner chose the crispy chicken exchanging the sweet and sour for curry sauce instead and the beef noodles. I chose the chicken black bean with egg fried rice and the portions were huge!!! Can’t complain at all with the price as ours would have definitely fed 4 people. Everything was tender and flavourful, could eat the rice and noodles without sauce they tasted that good! Upon paying the hostess gave us choc ices and was so friendly and grateful for the compliments! We had planned to go to an Italian tonight but have rescheduled for tomorrow as we can no longer move 🤣🤣 Please ignore any complaints about this place it is just picky people! Waiters understood us perfectly and we had the best time! Please come try this place you...
