It’s very rare that a restaurant inspires me to write a review of any kind, because it really has to be either overwhelmingly positive or negative. Thankfully when it comes to Sensur, this dining experience was of the former.

Tldr: If you are in Ronda then definitely make a point to stop by Sensur Gastrobar. You won’t regret it.

The way we found it was a bit random: my father was talking to the bartender of our hotel who sent us that way. We arrived at what looked like a closed casual cafe, but saw signs directing us further inside for the restaurant. We walked through and arrived at the place; it was almost entirely empty except for a couple already paying their bill.

Now, rule of thumb dictates that when a restaurant is empty it’s never a good sign. My mother and I tensed up, but my father and sister said to give it a chance. I’m glad we did. Even if you are the only table eating in the entire place, the wonderful people working at Sensur will make sure you are well fed and enjoy your time there.

I don’t usually review restaurants, but in the privacy of my mind I often inwardly critique them based on three categories: 1) food 2) service 3) ambience/location. Here are my short thoughts:

Food: 5/5 The chef here is brilliant. We ordered russian salad (with a light touch of truffle that made it stand out amongst others we’ve tried throughout our road trip in andalusia), ham croquettes (topped with another slice of ham, we ate each in a single bite and it melts in your mouth with a rich creaminess), brioche with salmon tartar (delicious, disappeared in our stomachs almost as soon as the plate hit the table), and patatas bravas (with a sauce that tasted almost like peruvian huancaina). Then for the main dish my father ordered ‘chuletón de ternera’ aka a huge slab of meat that he split with my sister and I. For context: I live in LA and have been trying to stop eating as much meat lately because I live surrounded by vegans (the horror), but there was no way I could resist this one and you know what, I don’t regret it!! The steak was cooked to perfection and quite literally cuts like butter. It was filling without leaving you bloated (and something like this would probably cost you triple the amount in the U.S. and wouldn’t be as high quality as you will find in Sensur). For desert we had cheese tart with raspberry ice cream with some frozen berries garnished throughout— to die for.

Service: 5/5 Our waiter, Bernabé, was incredible and everything was brought promptly and with a dose of good humor. Truly top notch service and so many restaurants in the cities I’ve lived in (Miami, LA, etc) could take a few notes from them.

Ambience/Location: 4/5 Location is not bad, as it’s quite close to the bridge and the plaza de toros. Located off the plaza del Socorro, Sensur has two main entrances. The restaurant itself is furnished with mid century modern chairs and tables (chairs that are terracotta oranges, forrest greens, and deep blues). It’s really hip in it’s design but a small constructive criticism is that there is TOO much lighting: there are all kinds of lights everywhere and this reduces some of the potential for ambience it could have. Instead of having 18 glowing orbs of light surrounding the sign with the name of the locale, it should remove those and place candles or something similar on each of the tables. Just a thought, but don’t let the lighting dissuade you from coming. Also the music playing in the background felt a bit anachronistic (it was a random radio station). With better mood lighting and a vibe-y playlist, this restaurant could really craft and atmosphere that would make it one of the go-to places in Ronda.

Conclusion: So I didn’t mean to write an essay but now that I have I hope that you take the time to go to this place. Overall it’s fantastic and if I ever am lucky enough to make it back to Ronda in my life then I plan on revisiting Sensur as well.

Now I’m going to go sleep off this food coma! Thanks...

I booked and noted on the booking it was a celebration meal for my husbands birthday. We arrived on time to be advised the restaurant wasn't open yet but they would call us from a seat in hotel reception as soon as it was open. After 10 minutes we were taken through to find another couple already seated at their table! We placed our order and my husband chose a starter of tuna belly with tomato salad. Two dishes arrived, my starter and a tomato salad. We assumed the tuna would be following on a separate dish but it didn't arrive. When the waiter was available I checked with him that there was supposed to be tuna with it. He did not seem to understand so I just said there was no tuna. He was very surprised! He said the chef had made a mistake which may be correct but there was no tomato salad available on the menu as a separate dish and why did the waiter not check the dish he was serving was correct before serving it? When we asked for the bill it was explained that a reduction in price had been made for that dish. It was 4 euros off. As there was no tomato salad on the menu I can't say whether 4 euros is the going rate for that dish in this restaurant or not BUT my husband would not have ordered a tomato salad for his birthday meal! He was served a dish he didn't order and was charged for it with very little in the way of an apology and at no point was any mention made of congratulations on his birthday even though it was noted on the booking. It was rather a disappointment sadly. We had far better service at other...

Basically a really nice restaurant. Service was super kind and they speak both English and Spanish. The interior design is super beautiful. I like the plants hanging from the ceiling in the big round hole in the wall is very nice. They need more toilet! They only have one toilet, and there’s pretty much a cue - also you can see through the crack in the door!!

The tacos were very nice, but they were not much meat or filling in them so it seem to be very sparingly made. This was a little bit disappointing. Taste was very nice. I am allergic to so many things so they made a special tuna taco for me, but I wasn’t too excited about it and it was extremely cold and somewhat disappointing when I expected like a warm taco.

The cakes are extremely delicious. We had two different ones. Cheesecake and the chocolate cake. If you are into the search, you really have to have them!

They made a guacamole with tortilla chips, which was super delicious and we even got it without tomato as I’m allergic to that! I would come here just for tacos and guacamole and dessert.

There’s no outside seating, but it’s very nice to sit inside and even if there’s a lot of people it’s not too noisy place so the acoustics are actually...

If you want a really fresh/new and amazing culinary experience, look no further. This is probably one of the best restaurants I have tried in southern Spain - they have fresh and innovative takes on traditional dishes. Everything from the classic “tinto de verano” drink, which came to us with a finely whipped lemon foam on top, to the exquisite ham croquettes with béchamel that just melt in your mouth. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and innovative culinary technique of this restaurant - the chef Antonio knows what he is doing. This restaurant could compete with the hottest restaurant of Miami or San Francisco. The interior design is well thought out with a really cool mid-century modern aesthetic. I think the only criticism that I could give this place is the lighting, albeit nice in design, I would dim them more to give the place more atmosphere, and I would play more loungy / modern music to fit the theme, rather than the “Spanish hits of the 90s” that they were playing :). Amazing service too - we felt right at home and well taken care of.
