Our journey brought us to a quaint eatery, Sessanta & Novanta, where we simply stumbled upon the restaurant without the formality of a reservation. As fortune would have it, our impromptu visit was met with a warmth that enveloped us like an old friend's famiglia embrace. We were promptly seated, and the adventure began.
A bottle of white Sardinian wine was presented, and I admit, my expectations were modest, coloured by the arid reputation of its homeland. Yet, as the first sip crossed my lips, it was as if the very essence of Sardinia had been captured in that glass. The wine spoke of sun-drenched hillsides and olive groves, with a sweetness that danced playfully on the tongue and an undercurrent of olives that whispered of summer's heat.
Our meal commenced with the Parmigiana, a dish that could only be described as a symphony of flavour. Each bite was a harmonious blend of rich textures and tastes, setting a high bar for the courses to follow.
For the main course, we indulged in a Vegetarian Lasagna and a Carbonara. The lasagna was a masterpiece, layers of tender pasta and vibrant vegetables melded together in perfect unity. The Carbonara, with its creamy sauce and robust flavours, was equally compelling. What struck us most, however, was how both dishes sat lightly, leaving us sated yet comfortable – a testament to the chef's skill.
As our plates were cleared, it became clear that this was more than a meal; it was an experience, a journey through the heart of Italian cuisine. The service was impeccable, each member of the staff contributing to an atmosphere of genuine hospitality.
In conclusion, it is with great pleasure that I recommend Sessanta & Novanta. Your dedication to culinary excellence and professional service has left an indelible mark. Bravissimo, ragazzi!
I must also apologise for the photos of the dishes being half-eaten. The food was so delectable that I couldn’t resist diving in before capturing the initial...
Read moreI was worried initially to come here given the negative reviews regarding their portions being characterized as "Small" but outside of that the negative reviews did also mention that the Pasta tasted as though it were true Italian.
I only ever buy Agua con gas at restaurants in Europe, and they had the Magma water which isn't as good as Vichy Catalan or Sousas which also comes in the 33CL glass bottles. I asked if they sold the 1L larger bottles that Magma distributes to some restaurants, but they only had the smaller 33CL bottles available for sale.
To start I ordered the Parmigiana, with the spaghetti carbonara as my main. For an appetizer I felt the portion was correct, when in comparison if you go to any seafood restaurant you're bound to come across Pulpo which of course you can buy in stores but you will happily pay 13+ Euro for as an appetizer and yet not feel as filled. This clearly isn't microwaved pasta dishes.
In Europe Bread is never free but the portion you are provided with an aioli drizzle is quite well made.
My entree although appearing intially small, was actually normal sized on an abnormally large plate. It's a strange bit of pseudoscience, but if you spread out your pasta you'll see that it's a good portion easily 120 grams or more of actual pasta before you add the other ingredients. Being 6 ft tall and 230lbs the appetizer & entree filled me up after having walked 23KM.
There was a 16 minute pause between my appetizer being served and then my main being brought to me. I think this was good to allow me to complete my first dish without the second one becoming cold.
I spoke to the owner who said the business has been open for 1 year & 8 months with family ties...
Read moreWe arrived in Santiago today after walking the Camino Portuguese for over two weeks. We were exhausted and could barely walk due to severe blisters but wanted a special meal to celebrate our achievement. My goodness we chose the right restaurant because this was hands down the best meal we had during our Camino - and we've had some amazing Portuguese and Spanish food. This is an authentic Italian restaurant run by an Italian family from Rome and it's up there with the best Italian food we've ever had, including extensive travels in Italy. I won't bore you with the details, just do yourself a favour, avoid the more commercial places on the roads round the cathedral and walk 3 minutes just on the edge of the centre to this absolutely wonderful Italian restaurant. The service was so professional but friendly - we felt so at home. The price was very reasonable for the standard of food. The wine was superb. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful and memorable evening. You will probably want to book because this place is going to be THE place to eat in Santiago very soon - they only opened...
