Great food, great prices, and great vibes all around. When we were searching for our lodging after JUST completing the Camino de Santiago, we had to ask a kind man for help since we couldn't find the entrance to the hotel and we were so tired. Later, when we were looking to grab a bite and a beer, we came inside this place only to find that the same kind man that helped us earlier worked here! We stayed in Santiago for two days, and both days we made sure to finish our night off at O Xa Chegou. The beer selection is great with local beers as well as a delicious local cider, and the tapas they bring out are always warm and yummy. We ordered a few different plates (which I cannot remember the names of) and everything was good, but what stood out were the delicious chipirones! They also come with some patatas that were fried to perfection. Needless to say, our second night we got a plate of chipirones again. Inside the bar is a cozy, calm atmosphere. Even though we are not from the area, it feels almost familiar. One of the things people do on their camino de santiago is that they bring a rock with them that signifies the burdens they carry, and when you feel like you no longer carry those burdens on the camino, you leave the rock in the spot you felt lighter. I hadn't left my rock anywhere by the time we finished the camino because it didn't feel right... until we came into this bar! It brought such a warm atmosphere, coupled with the delicious food and drinks, and our interaction with the man that works here. I decided to leave my little rock perched on the bar's window sill from the outside. I know it may not be there now, but I just wanted to highlight how this place made me feel. Truly a great experience and if we are ever in the area again, we are definitely stopping by! We won't be getting lost...
Read moreI agree with all the other reviewers: this place is authentic, old school, local Galactia. If you walk in and expect to be catered to as an arrogant American you will be sorely insulted and disappointed. But if you humbly and politely ask for the English menu you will be in for a treat! We've been here twice and if they were open for breakfast we would dine again before we leave. I recommend the Zorza with cheese and Baby Squid. Gordello wine is local and delicious. We also expressed our appreciation for the Galactian Chicken painting on the wall and the waiter brought the artist over to tell us about his work. This taberna is very popular with the locals (we were the only tourists there) and felt privileged to have experienced this...
