What a find. Came across it by serendipitous accident late on Friday. Was on my own but made to feel very welcome with staff taking great care and trouble to talk about the menu, the cooking, the suppliers, the ingredients etc. The menu was everything I love. Short. Local. Clear. Well thought out and, it turned out, proper sensible sized portions. Neither amuse bouche nor over large and wasteful.
I had the prawns and they were delicious. Not sure but I think there may have been a translation hiccup in the english menu. Didn't see or taste any spring onions as per the description. Green chillies yes. But not spring onions. Steak to follow. Cooked beautifully. A glass of Galician heavy red wine chosen by the waiter which lasted well into what was (and always should be ) the highlight of any meal how ever grand or humble.
There were I think six different cheeses on the board. It was getting late by now and although I wasn't the only person still eating the waiter again took the time to talk me through them. He'd been to see several of them being made. Mixture of cow, goat and sheep's milk and not a dull one amongst them. A couple of blues, very different from each other and both delicious but unusually not my favourite. Can't remember what it was called but it stood out as being a much darker yellow than the others. As I tried it I went into some sort of epicurean rhapsody. As I came to, I saw the waiter standing a little way off smiling. He had stopped what he was doing as he said he just really enjoyed watching people try that cheese for the first time.
That was Friday night. Was so smitten with the whole experience I went back for lunch on the Monday. I ate exactly the same (if it ain't broke don't fix it) Just as good.... and they called me a taxi to get to the airport which solved what had been threatening to be a problem.
This was my third visit to Santiago since 2017. With friends there and wonderful music to be made I need no extra reasons to hurry back. But it's good to have one anyway.
Wonderful....
Read moreI just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the team at Curro da Parra! It was the most amazing culinary experience we could have asked for after completing 800km Camino trek. After weeks and weeks of hearty "peregrino meals", we were craving fresh food & we wanted to celebrate the end of our journey in a special way. I stumbled upon this cosy restaurant by accident, and it was perfect! hidden away from the touristy spots next to the Cathedral, run by passionate young team of talented chefs. We didn't have a booking, and arrived relatively late (even for the Spanish standards ;)) and yet, the team went above and beyond to accomodate us. All the meals were cooked to perfection. Waiters and chefs were super friendly and spoke great English, they made honest recommendations regarding the portion sizes - we particularly appreciated the fact that you could choose half size mains, we gladly went for that option as there were way too many delicious things to try out, and we couldn't make up our mind. Another thing worth noting is that the restaurant is focused on seasonal, local produce from Galicia, including wines. We asked for a local vermouth recommendation and it was perfect. The tuna carpaccio is to die for, so are the scallops and the cod. The interior is cosy and intimate, with a mix of old timber and stone. There's also a nice outdoor terrace at the backyard. All in all, a fantastic experience and worth every single euro. Highly recommended....
Read moreWhere to start with what was one of our most magnificent dining experiences ever?! We were in a great mood wandering the beautiful streets of Santiago and O Curro da Parra topped off the experience with a night of friendly, welcoming and attentive service, a warm and inviting atmosphere and some of the best food we've ever dine on. Every dish was a highlight! The simple but sweet and almost smokey roast vegetables actually being one of our favourites! We also sampled the prawns, fish and steak, all of which were full in flavour and included subtle hints of perfectly matched flavours that left the tongue intrigued and asking for another mouthful. The wine was also spot on, thank you for the great recommendation. Also, don't miss out on the desserts. Definitely 5 stars. I recommend O Curro da Parra to anyone visiting Santiago de Compostella. Thank you for a...
