I was traveling through Spain with a group of people much younger than me, we were wondering around Seville when one of the girls said she’d forgotten something at the hotel and the whole group decided to walk back across the city with her. Trying to avoid any unnecessary walking I told them they could pick me up on the way back.
As I continued to meander around, a menu on a restaurant window caught my attention, because they had angulas! Baby eels. A rare treat I hadn’t tasted in decades, and which I had promised myself I would look for in Spain.
I walked in and asked for a plate of angulas, the waiter looked at me funny, I suspect because this was not something a single person would normally order. Then the chef came out, like he too wanted to see who had ordered them.
While I was relaxing I asked the waiter for a glass of refreshing sangria and also to recommend their most delicious wine. This finally seemed to break the ice and he was too glad to recommend one.
When the eels came out it was a tiny plate, and they were delicious! I continued to order other things and just then two Japanese tourists and their interpreter came in.
I saw some beautiful oysters behind a glass counter and even though I’d never eaten raw oysters before I had to try these. I had one, then a half dozen more. The Japanese guys sitting nearby saw this and ordered some for themselves.
I also had some fantastic fish meatballs (can’t remember what they were called). The Japanese guys pointed and got the same. They ordered something that looked good and so did I! I also had a lobster tail and several other fantastic things.
To finish off the awesome meal I had a perfectly balanced rum and coke made with Cuban rum, which you could not get in the States at the time.
I finally gave up and asked for the check. If I remember correctly on the menu the baby eels were priced at 71.00 Euro, but they had only charged me 43.00. That plus the rest of the meal came up to a hefty balance, but I didn’t care. It was one of the most memorable meals of my life.
I walked out and found the rest of my group waiting for me nearby and advised them they had to try this place. They were hungry by then and agreed and they also had a great time. As it turned out I had serendipitously wondered into the venerable...
Read moreWe heard a recommendation for this restaurant from local people and the place was worth it. A traditional and really stylish Spanish restaurant, where the butler and waiters know how to serve even the most demanding customers.
This restaurant is not intended for people in a hurry or looking for cheap food.
We ordered four portions. Steak tartar de angus, Huevos rotos con patatas, Tempuras de esparragos and Salteado de verduras. The dishes were simple but elegant and very tasty.
The steak tartar was a suitable size for two, even we have a half dish and it tasted good. I only needed a little more black pepper for my taste. The egg-potato combination was very delicious! One of the best i've never tasted.
When it comes to asparagus, I've almost never liked breaded or glazed asparagus. These were really good, although the asparagus was a bit overcooked and soft. The mushrooms were a nice surprise for this dish. Potato chips could also be removed from this portion. They don't go well with good asparagus and mushrooms. Small advice to kitchen 😉
The vegetables were also really good, the skillfully cooked egg on them was surprisingly good. For dessert, we took the selection meant for two people, which was good, but maybe too big and we couldn't eat it all.
The location, cosiness and service of the place was really A class. Finally, a special thank you for our waiter Juan Jose. We have a really good dinner experience.
I give a good 5 stars, but with small changes in food, I would have happily given a...
Read moreAn absolutely defeating experience. We were drawn by (relatively) good user reviews, yet left the establishment ignored and offended. Upon having been seated, we asked the waiter to suggest what he deemed the chef's best on the menu, to which he responded rather inarticulately. Having decided on a couple of menu items, we asked about the wine selection. The waiter kept pushing cheaper selections and it took an effort to get him to bring us the "best of the red" they had. The bottle arrived, and we kept waiting for the food. And waiting. And waiting. Many other guests came in the meantime, got seated and got their dishes brought to them. We couldn't tell what was going on with ours. None of the restaurant personnel ever even glanced at our table, so as we were time pressed for an event that we had to attend later that evening, we asked for some attention, to see what was holding our selection up. The irritated waiter finally was sent to us, and refusing to understand that we spoke no Spanish, asked in some very angry Spanish something to the avail "what we want to eat?". But, haven't we ordered already, some 50 minutes ago?!! Apparently not. We had no time any more to either wait for the dish to be prepared or to engane in understanding how we deserved such an unwelcoming treatment, so we just threw in a 100 euro bill for the wine and left in disgust. We didn't even get to try their food. A very strong thumb down for a restaurant that presents itself as upper...
