Never again. Not only was it an insult (to food) to call it "food" that was on our plates, but the tremendous ceremonial running to the toilet the next day for all of us, confirmed that this place isn't what it used to be.
Years ago, this restaurant had queues outside. When we passed by at a peak hour for dinner time, I thought we were lucky that this restaurant was over half empty. That was my second mistake.
The canapé style starters were like yesterday's leftovers warmed up. Curly, chewy and tasteless. But we still ate it cause we were starving. That was our next mistake.
The crispy duck pancake arrangement arrived on a plate looking like what "shredded bbq pork" does, sort of out of a tin. They used to bring duck with crispy top and use two forks in front of you to shred it, some more ceremoniously than others but at least they did it, just like normal oriental restaurants. Not anymore!!! The sauce tasted nothing like plum sauce - or even Hoisin. We couldn't determine what the flavour was, but it had so much sugar added to disguise it. Yuck.
We were discussing about leaving but one of our group felt that he wasn't going to pay. We didn't want that, but thankfully the main course arrived soon after the duck and was more flavoursome and edible. It was by no means good and a very long shot from what used to be served in there, we ate, paid and left as quickly as possible.
Non of us want that to be remembered for what was otherwise another great visit to the island, so we never discuss it. What a shame, the business must've been built up by someone who cares and then taken over by someone who thinks it's easy, and you can treat people like pigs who'll eat anything. There's queues for many other restaurants, so they can't blame the pandemic for a lack of clientele. I used to recommend this restaurant to everyone, now I tell everyone to go anywhere but here, such a shame.
Our first mistake was even considering...
Read moreDecided to eat here last monday night (11/9/23) as we saw the Google reviews were quite good. Terrible decision. Terrible customer service.
We sat outside, next to the flowerpots. At first my friend saw a cockroach on my right arm. He tried not to make a big fuss of this situation and to avoid scare me he didn´t mention what I kind of insect was and he just removed it from my arm.
But few minutes later, when we were eating, we saw another one walking aroud the dishes on the table. We let the staff know about this (there was a woman outside all the time greeting people as they walk by the restaurant) and they replied that there was nothing they can do. To made it worse, they never apologized or anything similar (like moving us to a different place).
We tried to calm down to not to ruin our dinner, but then we found that the plant next to us was full of them (like the one we took in the picture).
It looked like they already knew about this but didn´t care at all. Seeing this we understand that they are not even keen to find a solution for future clientes (ex. remove the plants or keep the drain covered).
And that it was even funny for them to look the whole situation while we remove the insects.
About the food: We stopped eating when we found the insect on the table. They have 5 different menues (which is common in touristic areas but difficult to have all the food cooked at a good level). We choose 2 types of sushi (they were OK), the Sau Mai and a chicken dish that arrived last and we almost couldn`t taste it.
It is definetly obvious that the restaurant is meant for foreign tourism as most of the restaurants of Puerto del Carmen. With long menues and regular...
Read moreVisually this is a nice restaurant but the food could be improved considering other decent asian restaurants in the locality.
The menus are extremely confusing with separate menus for Thai, Chinese & Japanese but on the Chinese menu is Thai dishes. One combined menu would be less confusing.
We got the combination platter for starter & it was the greasiest pile of food I’ve tasted in a long time. The burnt ribs & wings were edible but everything else was horrendous. We had to dab the grease off everything with our napkins. It seems that everything was deep fried in oil that wasn’t hot enough for the same time, so some items were burnt & others weren’t. We complained but the staff didn’t care & we were still charged for it.
The mains were slightly better & the fried rice was decent. After ordering the waiter casually asked if we would like prawn crackers, they were on the bill, so beware. Most restaurants give these complimentary.
We paid the bill, refused the free shot, did not tip the staff & left with a bad taste in our mouths...
