Maritoni — Restaurant in Tías

Hugely disappointed with this place. We were looking forward to trying some of their dishes as we saw reviews online. The starter was garlic and prawn pasta. The prawn was mushy, possibly the worst I’ve ever had as if it was from frozen but left for too long. The pasta was stuck together so it had obviously been sitting cooked for a while before being dished up. The garlic was the only flavour from the starter and it was disgustingly strong. We had sirloin steak and I had mixed grilled fish for mains. My partner described the steak as soft and mushy again (don’t know what’s going on there) and the fish I had was smelly (not fresh), genuinely tasted disgusting and cheap. The ‘salad’ was dry and not fresh and the potatoes were cold but tasted okay. The atmosphere is nice if you’re drinking I guess, the waitresses were least friendly staff we’ve come across in two weeks of being here. Stay clear if you actually want nice food to eat. It seems like a tourist trap for families who want to feed their kids and then have drinks (no care for quality) Hopefully this...

We arrived and the restaurant was full and asked for a table for 2. We were told it would be a 30 min wait and if we wanted to wait, we could go into the bar next door called Sea View. Which we did. There were 3 groups in front of us. It took about 15 mins before Raul came round for us. If you have ordered any drinks in Sea View you can take them to Maritoni's.

You get a free appetiser when you first sit down (like cocktail sausages, but a100 times better and an amazing sauce). When you've ordered you then get another free appetiser (chicken drumsticks in another amazing sauce) before your meal. We got a mixed paella and bottle of Matues Rose. The meal was amazing. The staff member that brought the meal gave us each equally 2 prawns, 2 mussels and a share of the paella. Best I've ever had. You get a complimentary short or liqueur at the end. Fish and sauce was cooked superbly, right next to our table. Lovely green peppercorn sauce (described on menu as pepper sauce so was expecting green peppers but happier with what I got). Chips were well cooked, as requested but still got some rice. Comes with a poor excuse for vegetables which can only be described as "out of a tin" or "frozen and defrosted by boiling to death" like. My expectations of the veg was not high as I had seen the pictures. Pictures and the dish as it's presented do not look appetising but the fish, sauce and chips were lovely, rice and veg were not required and need some rethinking to make it into a smarter plate! We waited next door in Seaview which we expected and happy to do! We took our drinks from there to restaurant which meant that we weren't offered an additional drink on arrival or when I had finished my drink and had to ask for a glass of wine after my dinner had been served!
