The place isn't exactly a high end restaurant but the food quality will give a high end restaurant a run for the money. The place seems to be like a family run bar with a small kitchen that serves food for the bar although I am not sure that it positioning as a bar right. I would have made it as a restaurant with a bar. But I digress.
Happened upon this place quite by accident. We were looking for a place to eat when we just came to Valencia, so happened around the old city with no plan and stopped by just because it was open (most other places were closed). We were hungry and they were open. The food is great but when it gets busy the food starts coming out slower since there seemed to only be 1 person running the kitchen but what we got was well worth the wait.
My son's entrecote(ribeye) was cooked to perfection and I my son is very very picky when it comes to his meats. Pimientos de Padron (actually first place where we came to love this dish). Octopus, Pork Cheeks.... Everything was...
Read moreThis was the first restaurant I visited during my trip to Valencia, and I had high expectations based on my previous dining experiences in Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, and San Sebastian. Our hotel, which was nearby, recommended this place. It's tucked away in a small alley, and honestly, if you just walk by, it doesn't catch your eye or make you feel like you should stop and try it. We chose to sit outside because the inside felt a bit dull and empty, especially during the summer. The service was friendly and quick, which was a plus. We started with a pitcher of white sangria and then ordered our food. We had padrón peppers, Valencian tomatoes with goat cheese, grilled provoleta cheese, grilled artichokes, and finally, the house specialty: grilled squid. Overall, I would rate the food as good to average. There was nothing wrong with it, but nothing stood out either. I think my expectations were set too high, so I ended up feeling a bit...
Read moreImpeccable food and service. This gem of a place was recommended to me while traveling to Peñíscola by one of the owners good friends who knew I would be staying in Valencia for several days.
Don’t be fooled when it says it’s a bar. It’s this and so much more. This place should be given a Michelin star for their tapas. A very diverse menu offers everything from fresh fish to Veggies and cured meats. I highly recommend the grilled calamares as this is Jose’s speciality. He will be happy to recommend one of his carefully selected wines to pair with your meal. This place makes you feel like you are at home and Jose and his staff are very friendly and hospitable. Whether stopping for a snack, a nice wine or or a full meal, you won’t be disappointed. I ate here 3 nights out of my 4 and they were the best meals I had during my several trips to Spain. Thank you Jose and Eduardo! I cannot wait to see you when I return!...
